Chapter 10

When I got home I wasn’t surprised to have Jacob waiting for me which is why I made Stefan drop me off around the corner and drop off my shopping later. He’d agreed and waved me goodbye as I jogged towards my house. When I reached my street I slowed down and started to walk, pretending to drag my body down the street.

“Hey what are you doing walking around here? I thought you were sick?” Were the first things he asked me when we met each other in the street.

I shrugged. “I don’t know I needed some fresh air and I thought a walk would make me feel better.”

“Did it?” He wondered giving me a hug.

I sighed and just shook my head. “It was just nice to get out of the house.”

“So do you think you’ll be here tomorrow too?” He led me inside my house, arm around me and stroking my hip calmly.

“I suppose it depends how I feel in the morning doesn’t it?” I said with a small smile. “So you skipped lunch to come and see me. You have ten minutes of my time until you have to get back to school.”

“Why can’t I just chill with you for the rest of the day?” He complained. “I’ll have a better time here.”

I rolled my eyes. “I can think of a few pretty good reasons.”

“Go on, exaggerate.” He said with a sigh.

“One, you’ll get in trouble for skipping, two I’ll make you sick and three I just really need some quiet time. Look Jake, you’re my best friend and I love you for that but sometimes we do have to separate. Amy hasn’t called or anything demanding to know where I am. And while it’s sweet that you’re here and you’re worried you really don’t need to be.” I told him.

We stopped at the front door and he frowned before smiling. “Well okay. You just said you loved me.”

I groaned. “Seriously Jake, that’s all you’re worried about? Besides I said I loved you for being my friend, don’t flatter yourself. Now please, leave.”

He sighed. “Honestly, I was worried you were with Stefan.”

“Oh so now you don’t trust me either?” I demanded, feeling myself get angrier.

I was never usually like this.

“No I don’t trust him; you know what he does to girls.” He said.

“Well you don’t need to worry about me.” I yelled. “Stop worrying!”

He chuckled. “Wow, our first couples’ fight.”

I was now fuming. “How can you say that?” I yelled. “What are you even still doing here?”

“Nothing, I was just leaving.” He said sounding dazed as he turned around, got in his car and drove away.

When I opened the front door I jumped when I saw Stefan standing in the kitchen making two mugs of coffee. “What, how did you get in here?”

He shrugged. “Back door, you should be more careful when you lock up. You could get robbed you know.”

“Where do you live Stefan?” I asked him curiously.

“Not far at all from here. Just a few houses down. Makes the fact that we don’t know each other even weirder huh?” He said with a little chuckle. “It’s surprising you couldn’t hear Kaiden’s arrival. There was a wrestling match in the backyard.”

“That’s cute, you boys wrestle?” I smiled and bit my lip.

He shrugged. “Yeah, my father taught us. I’d join the school team but that’s lame.”
