***Mai’s P.O.V.***

I woke up in an overly sanitized white room.

“S***,” I groaned to myself once I had been able to fully open my eyes and take in my surroundings. I was in a hospital: again. Between all the checkups for my broken rib and the first time I had actually in the hospital for my rib, I was starting to get sick and tired of ending up here. What had happened now, though? All I could remember was that I was in that room with Liam, and we were fighting until I passed out. I had been in a lot of pain before I passed out, but why? Did I really hit myself that hard when he let go of my wrist?

With a few grumbles, I tried to grab onto the sides of the hospital bed so that I could lift myself up. However, a sharp pain twisted through my torso and I let out a small little whine. F***, my abdomen felt like it was on fire when I moved. The pesky little heart monitor started to beep faster, and I flopped back onto the bed in order to try and get my vitals under control. The last thing I needed was for some doctor to come in and make a fuss over me; they always poked and prodded me until they made the problem worse.

Despite my best efforts, the pain was still there and it made calming my pulse a difficult task. The door to the room practically flew open, and a doctor and nurse walked in with their standard scrubs. They wore worried looks, but when they saw that I was awake I could see their breaths of relief. The doctor was holding a clipboard in one of his large hands while the other brushed through his greying black hair. The glasses on the tip of his nose were close to falling off, and they were small compared to the clunky ones that the nurse was wearing. She had her hair pulled back in a ponytail to try and keep the frizzy strands out of her face. I had seen these two before; they were my regular care people when it came to my rib.

“Eira,” the doctor greeted, a warm smile stretched his lips a little while he spoke my name. “It’s good to see you awake so soon. Are you feeling okay? Does your rib hurt?”

I looked down at where my torso was hiding under the covers, “yes, yes I think it does.” The words sounded quite odd, because I knew that something was hurting, but I couldn’t quite figure out why it would be my rib. It was supposed to be healed by now, but what else could be hurting?

“How badly?” the nurse wondered, and I knew that she was referring to the 1 to 10 scale.

Just to make sure of my number, I shifted again before answering through a wince. “7 at most,” I told her, and she nodded before scurrying off. Only my doctor remained. “What happened to my rib?” I questioned, and I managed to find the button on the side of the bed that would help me to sit up. There was still a little pain, but I pushed it away.

“You were talking to a gentleman,” he started, and it took everything in me to not scoff at ‘gentleman’, “and you must have hit your rib, because it broke again. You weren’t fully healed yet, and it was still trying to mend itself, so the bone was still weak.”

“Oh,” was all that I could manage to say in response.

“Would you like me to have a nurse call up your parents? They went to the cafeteria a little while ago,” he proposed, and my spirits lifted at the mention of my parents.

“Yes please,” I replied politely. With that, he left the room shortly before coming back in and giving me a few pain pills to take. I took them within seconds; I was desperate to relieve some of the pain. After what seemed like an eternity, the door opened again to reveal my parents. Just like the nurse and the doctor, they came into the room with worried looks of their faces, but they smiled when they saw my happy features. “Mom! Dad!” I’m sure that I sounded like a small child who hadn’t seen their parents in forever, but I didn’t care because I was beyond happy to see them. I had been dreading that-
