16th century, French court.
He got the arrow right in the middle and I clapped.
It had been a few days since the ball, party, whatever you'd like to call it; and I couldn't stop thinking about Sebastian. He just wouldn't get out of my head, whatever I did.
Seeing him now, my heart just sped up a hundred times.
And this was not a good thing; it would be very bad if someone found out about my feelings.
He jumped a bit and turned around, and I swear his eyes twinkled a bit when he realized it was me.
Yeah, now I'm imagining things, you really are in deep shit, self!
Ah yes, I like to call myself self.
"I didn't know I had admirers," he said.
"You don't" I retorted harshly, with a playful smile.
"Ouch, that hurts Lady Elizabeth," he put his hand on his heart.
"You do know you can call me Lizzy? You don't have to be so formal every time," I stated.
"Only if you'll call me bash," he extended his hand, which I shook, "deal."
He looked down at his bow and arrow, than back at me "would you like to try?" he extended his hand to me, "I mean, I'm a pretty good teacher, not to brag or anything, but I did teach the dauphin of France how to shoot an arrow."
I took his hand and he led me into position, "someone is very confident," I commented, a smile still plastered to my face.
This was only our second conversation and I loved how we hit it off, how we could be so natural around each other. Though, this didn't really help with my dilemma.
At all.
I couldn't go around flirting or watching as someone courted me, it would have repercussions, very bad ones.
Though at the moment, I tried not to care, I mean I could at least enjoy a fun evening, right?
And that is how I ended up walking back to my chambers, all covered in mud, with a silly smile plastered on my face.
But it didn't stay on too long.
On my way to my chambers, I met my grandmother who didn't look as pleased with my activities.
"Really, Elizabeth? I thought you were more professional than this. Playing around with the king's bastard? Or with any man in general, it doesn't matter. You are only here to pick up the artefacts, then leave. You staying here for a while out a fun should not interfere with anyone's story or I assure you, the council will know about this," she glared.
If we were in a TV show, I'm sure smoke would be coming out of her nostrils and ears.
I, of course, only held her glare.
"You are English Elizabeth, just remember that. If anything happens, they'll all point fingers at you first, even Sebastian. I reckon you know what happened, or will happen, to Lola?"
She gave me one last meaningful glare, and then left me standing alone in the corridor.
I knew exactly what she was talking about. Lola is one of Queen Mary of Scotland's ladies whom will end up in England, befriending the queen and will get killed for attempted murder in the end.
The only difference was that I wasn't planning on killing anyone. Though I knew she was right, these people were merciless when it came to royals.
Still, I hated being told what to do, and despite the fact that I knew very well the consequences of what I was doing, right now I didn't care.
The only thing, I really cared about though, was Bash getting hurt. By involving himself with me, he was getting himself into so much drama, and he would surely get hurt in the end.
Though I wasn't from this England, I was from the 21st century, from a much more open minded century. But of course, they couldn't know that.
Well, maybe it was indeed best to leave.
History shouldn't be altered, I shouldn't be intervening, and he is supposed to marry Kenna in the original plot of things, though he still doesn't know that.
Kenna is another one of Queen Mary's ladies in wait. They're all adorable; I've had the chance to speak with them in parties.
It's actually not so pleasant, looking at people and knowing what will happen to them. Looking at all my friends, everyone here and knowing they'll be separated, how and when they'll die.
I went to continue my walk to my chambers, when something caught my eye from the window. I squinted a bit to see, and this time, my heart didn't skip any beats, it literally stopped, snapped and exploded into a million tiny pieces.
Sebastian and Mary kissing.
With all the knowledge I had, I never knew they were in a relationship. No one had ever heard about it, I guess they had, or will, hide it very well.
"You are only here to pick up the artefacts"
Maybe I really don't belong here.
