Metina could feel her cheeks heat up as the night progressed. Eddie was becoming looser, less of the tense boy who wouldn't trust anyone. He was becoming quite funny too, sweet like candy, his eyes where like the bluest oceans...wait! Metina was slipping down the slope into deep love with Eddie Vedder, but she couldn't resist the beautiful brown locks that tumbled down his chest, or his muscular arms, or his lips.....Metina pulled herself out of the trance. She told herself the truth, that he was a rockstar, that he could have any girl he chooses, and she would certainly not be the one. But something inside her swirled when he talked to her, like he enjoyed being near her, and she enjoyed being near him.Every once in a while a reality check would come through, some fan jumping up and down, asking Eddie to sign something. Then a moment of silence, for Metina it was her remembering that no matter how much she wanted him, so did the rest of the world, and for Eddie, it was the realization that she was too good for him.
She had gone to high school, and graduated! She had a real job, her own apartment, she had her life together. She wasn't like the other girls Eddie had dated, they where easy and cheap, but Metina, this girl was different.
Eddie had never fallen in love before, he thought he had, but now he knew. He'd do anything for this mermaid who had just happened to wash up on his shore. He wanted to hold her all night long, to smell her perfume, to sing her songs in the midnight moonlight.
Metina had never fallen in love before either, she always knew she had better things to do than drool over boys, but this boy, this boy was different. She wanted him to stay with her forever, to tell him everything she had done, to tell him everything that had been done to her.
"Hey Metina?"
"Yeah?"
"Would you wat to...go get a milkshake with me?"
Metina felt the tremble in Eddie's voice and it made her shiver.
"I'd love to."
She stared into his beautiful eyes, them telling her everything he had seen without him speaking a word.
Over milkshakes, they finally told each other about themselves. Eddie spoke of his terrible childhood and the confusion that came from it, and Metina spoke of a similar story, parents who neglected her and how she ran away to sunny California.
Metina felt the hurt that Eddie shared, she understood it. And Eddie felt her understanding, and he felt her pain too.
"Oh God..." Metina murmured, looking past Eddie and at a clock on the wall.
Eddie turned and saw the clock too, "Work tomorrow?"
Metina nodded, pulling out a crumpled twenty dollar bill and placing it on the counter.
"Please! Let me.." Eddie said, giving her back her money.
"Eddie, it's the least I can do, you've made me so happy tonight. The least I could do is pay for your shake, and maybe give you my number..."
Eddie grinned, "Well then, I guess I'll take that." He leaned back and took the slip of paper Metina had handed him.

~ Metina
Eddie found himself reveling in the small things about her, her handwriting, the way she would rub her palms on jeans so much that her hands turned blue, the way she could crack every joint in her body.
"I should get going...thank you so much for tonight Eddie." Metin said, looking down at her toes.
"Please, let me walk you home." Eddie insisted, standing up and holding his hand out for Metina to hold.
Metina got up and took Eddie's hand, they walked to the door, Eddie opened it for her, and they walked through. The empty streets of San Diego looked so beautiful at night, or maybe tat was just the two beautiful humans holding hands. Eddie kicked a rock down the dark street as he and Metina spoke softly into the night air.
"I haven you had this much fun in a while, seriously, thank you Eddie."
"It's my pleasure, seriously thank you Metina." Eddie said, mocking her choice of words.
"You know, you really aren't the tough-guy you pretend to be."
"Oh yeah?" Eddie said, puffing up his chest.
"Yeah!", Metina said, doing to same, "See, like you aren't the angry man you are on television, or the yelling and screaming guy that my parents despise."
"Your parents despise me?"
"My parents despise me, and everything I love."
"You love me?"
