Eddie woke up late the next morning, a smile still plastered on his face. He couldn't get the beautiful girl's laugh out of his head as he fiddled with the piece of paper she had given him the night before. He traced his fingers over her handwriting, memorizing each number and letter. He finally pulled himself out of bed and walked lazily into the kitchen.
"Young man! How late where you out last night?" Chris said in a mocking tone.
"Geez dad, let me live!" Eddie said, returning the scarcasm. He walked up the the kitchen table where Chris was hunched over a cup of coffee. He smiled and hit the table, shaking it violently, when he lifted his hand a piece of paper was left.
Chris looked up with wide eyes, "You didn't."
"I did."
Chris jumped up and high fived his best friend, "You're gunna call her right?"
"So soon?" Eddie questioned, he didn't want to mess up his chance so early.
"Dude, girls love day-after calls." Chris said, nodding.
If anyone would know it was Chris, he was tall, dark and handsome, he could get any girl he wanted. Eddie took his advice and picked up the phone, he listened to the tone for a moment, trying to formulate what'd he'd say if Metina picked up. He twirled his fingers in the cord nervously as he plugged in her number. He felt his breath hitch as the dial went off and the other line picked up.
"Hey, this is Metina."
He heard her voice and his heart melted, his throat went dry and his words left his mind immediately.
"Hello?" She said, her voice ringing through the air. Chris waved his hands in the air frantically, mouthing the word, TALK!
"Um..hey, it's..its uh-Eddie." Eddie said, his deep voice trembling. Little did he know that Metina smiled from ear to ear when she heard him, little did he know her heart melted too.
"Eddie! Thanks again for last night!" She said, almost proudly. Eddie questioned this for a moment but quickly responded.
"Of course, it was a lot of fun. I was wondering if you'd..." Eddie said, holding his breath for a second.
Metina looked around the room, staring mischievously at the man sitting on her couch, his eyes filling with rage as she was glowing.
"...if you'd want to come surfing with me today..."
"I'd love to! Come and pick me up whenever, I'll be ready." She smiled and hung up the phone, holding it to her heart and smiling. She leaned against the nearest wall and slid down it, still clutching the phone.
"Who the fuck was that?" The man sitting on her couch asked.
"Eddie Vedder.." Metina spoke dreamily.
"Like...That Jeremy guy?" He said, clenching his fists.
"Yeah...Jeremy..." Metina mumbled, staring up at the ceiling.
"Why is he calling you?"
"We hung out last night, he brought me home." She twirled her hair.
"So now you're hanging out with MTV superstars?" He asked, she could hear the rage in his voice.
It was quick, she couldn't have expected anything, at least not until she was being lifted off the ground and when his fist came in contact with her face. Everything went black and all she felt was her heartbeat, slowing gradually. She heard the door slam and felt the cold ground beneath her.
"Metina?" Eddie said, pushing open the already cracked open door. There was no sign of her, the TV was still on as well as the lights.
"Metina?!" Eddie repeated, his anxiety beginning to get the better of him. That's when he saw her, sprawled out on the floor, her hair covering her face. He felt his heart drop as he looked upon her face, so pale and quiet, her lips a deep red and her eyelashes dark, like a Disney princess. He knelt beside her and scooped her into his arms. As he stood up he saw Chris standing at the door, his eyes looked sad as he locked them on the girl in Eddie's arms.
"What happened?" Chris asked. Eddie couldn't answer him, all he could do was stare at her, laying helpless in his arms. Chris noticed this and took action. He grabbed a wet towel and gently wet her face, trying to awake her. She stirred slightly and a small groan escape s from her lips. Her eyes fluttered open to see Eddie's worried face strung back at her. She closer her eyes again and smiled, enjoying the feeling of being in his arms.
"Metina?" He asked, his hand roaming up to hold her head up.
"Mmhm?" She mumbled back, reveling in the moment.
"Oh my god! What happened?" He asked, bringing her to her couch. She groaned softly and shifted.
"My ex boyfriend was over and heard our phone call, I guess he didn't like the idea." She scratched her neck nervously. She saw how mad Eddie got at this, how red he turned. She knew about his anger issues, everyone knew. She sat up a little, wincing at the pain and took Eddie's hand, "It's okay Eddie, I can handle it myself. There's no need to be mad." She smiled at him, her lips curling in and her eyes sparkling.
Eddie felt his nerves calm, "Well...the least I can do is offer you a place to stay for a while." He said, looking away from her.
Metina looked up at Chris, asking permission with her eyes. He nodded and looked at Eddie, who looked back at Metina, almost glowing at the thought.
"I'd love to."
Eddie smiled more than he had ever smiled in his depressing life. The boys helped her up and laid her on her bed as she directed them on what to pack for her.
"You guys do know I can walk, he only punched my face, it not like he broke my legs." She giggled as Eddie carried her out of her apartment and Chris followed with her luggage. Eddie blushed slightly as he finally admitted to himself that he was only carrying her because he wanted to protect her.
