Telling the Family

Harry and Megan had to tell their family about Alexander's autism. The couple was still in shock over Alexander's diagnosis and Harry was afraid about how the other members of the royal famliy would react to the news.

Harry knew that William and Kate would be really supportive over the choices they will have to make for Alexander's life, but Harry was more afraid about what his father and grandmother would say. Megan was still quite distressed by the fact that her beautiful little boy had something wrong with him and that it will affect him throughout his entire life. Harry and Megan had booked an appointment with the speech and lauange therapist Dr. Benson had referred them to.

It was a Monday, Harry and Megan had invited William, Kate, Charles, Camilla, Prince Philip, and the queen to their home to discuss Alexander. When the time came around Harry and Megan welcomed the guests into their home.

Once everyone got settled, Harry and Megan sat down. William knew something was wrong because of the couples facial expressions, they read scared and worried, respectively. Everyone in the family knew about Alexander's appointment with the physician, but they thought it was a routine check up.

"So as you all know, we took Alexander to see the physician, Dr. Benson," Harry paused for a moment and took a heavy breath, "she found that something is wrong with Alexander."

"What? What's wrong with little Alex?" Charles asked with worried disbelief looking between Harry, Megan, and their son, who was sitting in the corner.

"Ummm" Harry took a short pause, "After Dr. Benson's evaluation she came to the conclusion that Alex has autism." Even before Harry finished speaking Meghan got up and left the room, but Kate followed her to make sure she was already .

Everyone sat in shock. Charles was in tremendous shock, he was looking forward to being more involved in grandchildren's life. Now, Charles didn't know how he was going to do that. Prince Philip and the queen sat there quite saddened by the news because they knew how excited Harry was about becoming a father and they had heard Harry talking about all the things he would like Alexander to do like him.

"I'm sorry son." Charles said then he continued, "Are you going to get help for Alex?"

"Dr. Benson has referred us to a highly regarded speech and language therapist." Harry said trying to keep a smile on his face. Just then Kate came back into the room without Megan.

"How is Megan?" William asked Kate.

"She's very upset, but she wants to let everyone know that she will do everything in her power to make sure that Alexander has all the help he needs." Kate said.

Harry could understand how Megan is feeling, of course he could. His heart was breaking just thinking about all that Alexander was going to have to over come. From his home life to school life and to how the media would scrutinize him, Harry knew they were going to have to do their best to give Alexander proper love and support.

Once everyone left, Harry went to check on Meghan. Harry heard crying coming from their bedroom. As he opend the bedroom door he saw Meghan on the bed sobbing with her face planted on the sheets. Harry rushed to his wife and pulled her into a big hug in an effort to comfort her.

"Shhh it's going to be all okay, I promise." They stayed like that until Meghan fell asleep.

Once Harry was sure she was asleep he laid his wife down and pulled the cover over her. Harry walked downstairs, he stopped at the living room door to observe his beloved son. Harry stood there watching his beautiful baby boy who was in his own little world.

Harry turned when a picture of he, his mother, and brother caught his attention. He slowly walked to the photo and stilled himself. Harry picked up the photo. Moving his fingers over his mother's face he went into deep thought.

Harry's mind went to memories of all the yelling and arguing that his parents did towards the end of their marriage. He knew that he didn't want Alexander to be brought up in a house of war and arguing; He wants his son to be brought up in a house of love and peace. Not what his parents gave him and William in the time leading up to their divorce.

Harry snapped out of it. He put the photo back onto the table and turned towards Alex who was asleep on the floor with his thumb in his mouth. Harry picked Alexander up and gently rocked him.

"Alex your mummy and daddy love you ever so much. You don't know how much you are loved." Harry said, then paused to look at his sleeping boy in his arms then continued, "you are going to do great things in this world some day." Harry finished speaking and kissed his son on the back of his head, gently laying him on the sofa. Harry covered his son with a blanket before turning the lights off, exiting the room.
