The Speech Therapist

The appointment with the speech and language  therapist was today and after a few emotional days from Meghan they were ready.  Meghan was still getting use to the word "Autism", but was set on Alex having a normal childhood, or as normal of a childhood a Prince could have. She doesn't want his autism to overrule who he is, in Megan's mind Alexander is still just Alex, but with a problem that's never going away. She knows Alex will work hard along with his family's help to not let his autism rule his life. Having a child with autism has led Megan and Harry to want to help other families going through the same things who may not have the support, wether it's financial or otherwise to get their children the assistance they may need.

The speech and language therapist wanted the whole famliy to be there for his assessment and he wanted to talk to the whole famliy. The whole famliy was been really supportive since Harry and Megan told them that Alexander has autism. Charles is still uneasy about Alexander's autism dioganes because he connected with George, Charlotte and  and louis quite quickly and a thought that his grandson can just blank him from his world is quite scary for him or his grandson to not connect at all with him or the world . Willaim and Kate have been the biggest support network for Harry and Meghan.

The family arrived at 10:30, half a hour before the speech therpiest would arrive. Everyone was nervous and there was still conflict between some of the members of the royal famliy. Alexander was sitting against the living room wall listening to music. The adults were sitting there in complete silence. Alexander broke the silence with his singing

You get under my skin
I don't find it irritating
You always play to win
But I won't need rehabilitating, oh no

I think I'm on another world with you, with you
I'm on another planet with you, with you

Another girl, another planet
Another girl, another planet

Space travels in my blood.

Everyone looked towards Alexander who's in his own little world when they heard the door bell rang. Harry got up and answered the door. Harry welcomed the speech and language therpist who looked around 50 odd. Everyone stood up and shook hands with the man and went through to the dining room to chat.

" Nice to meet you all, My name is Dr green." The older man introduced himself to everyone, Then he continued," please can we get one thing straight before we start I'm not here to cure your child. Most people think when a child with autism speaks that their cured that's not the case I should know because I have seen first hand parents reactions." Dr green concluded.

Everyone was taken back but their understand that even if Alexander began to speak that his autism will always be there and be a part of him.
There was no doubt people were on edge with the speech and language therpist being there. The speech therapist could sense that people were on edge so he waited for a little bit then continued.

" First of  all for this to work you all need to learn to speak to each other and learn to listen to one another ." The speech therapist told everyone.

" What happens if we can't listen or communicate with  each other?" Willaim bravely asked the speech therpiest.

" Then I can't help you I'm afraid." The speech therapist said simply then he continued," you all have to learn to put aside your differences to help Alexander and learn to communicate with each other. I'm not saying that you all have to get along but for  Alexander's progress you have to put aside differences." The speech therapist said from the heart.

" Could be worst?" Willaim while trying hold back laughter.

" William show  some respect ." Kate said quite fiercely.

" I'm sorry." William said like a school boy who had just got told off.

" That's what I mean you have to work put your differences because communication is like ping pong. I hit something towards someone and someone pongs a response back but Alexander can't do that. Alexander becames the main   focus of the convestion and that's how you work your tensions out between each other. Alexander feels under pressure everytime someone asks him something." The speech therapist concluded.

Everyone sat there and thought  deep and hard about what the speech therpiest said.

" So How do we help ?" Harry asked the speech therpiest.

" You will work with Alexander and with me. I will teach you all techniques to do with Alexander and I will be working with Alexander as well." The speech therapist told everyone the plan to help Alexander.

Everyone got up from the table and followed Dr green, the speech therpiest into the living room,  where Alexander was listening to music on his tablet. Harry went and crouched down infront of his son and slid down his headphones then  Harry removed Alexander's headphones and tablet from him. Harry then led his son to the sofa and sat Alexander on the sofa while the speech therpiest was setting up.

The speech therapist pulled from his  big  bag a  few cards with pictures and the word underneath broken down. This is one of the many techniques that he uses to help the child speak. This technique is to get the child use to seeing the word and the speech therpiest normal says the word so the child  has the audio and vision input of the word.

The all famliy was watching this technique and taking it all in.
