Much later on, the door to their tiny apartment finally creaked open again. Beca was starfishing across her and Chloe's bed with a pillow covering her face. She had barely moved since Chloe has left. At the sound of the door opening, she brushed the pillow off and propped herself up hastily.
"Chloe?" She called out anxiously.
"Nope. Guess again!" a voice called out cheerfully.
"Hi, Amy." Beca grumbled, flopping back down. "I thought you were Chloe."
"Evidently not," Amy winked, bustling into the room with all her Fat Amy Winehouse stuff.
She took everything into her 'room' and dumped it on the floor before going back to Beca. She took in her surroundings. The messy bed. Beca's miserable face. And, most importantly, the lack of Chloe.
"What's wrong?" Fat Amy asked, head tilted to one side. "Something isn't right. There's a definite lack of Chloe-ness in this room."
"We just had a fight, Amy. It's no big deal." Beca mumbled from under her arm, which was now draped across her face in replace of the pillow.
"Oh. Well what about?"
"Me," Beca mumbled. "It's my fault. I hate living in New York, I hate my job, I miss Beatrice." She sighed, her voice quivering a little.
"So then why are you still here?" Fat Amy asked.
"What do you mean?" Beca sighed, peeking up at Fat Amy.
"Quit." Amy shrugged, like it was no big deal.
"What?" Beca asked doubtfully, not sure if she heard Amy right.
"Quit." Fat Amy repeated.
"Amy, I can't do that." Beca said rolling her eyes.
"Yes you can. Why not?" Fat Amy pushed. "You obviously hate it here. If nothing is good about it just quit and go home."
"I can't afford to, Amy. Not with Chloe not working anymore. Anyway, her vet school is here. And you know we need..." Beca said miserably.
"There are other jobs in New York," Amy suggested.
"So why don't you have one?" Beca shot back. Fat Amy dropped down onto the bed immediately. She covered Beca's mouth with one hand and began stroking her hair with the other.
"Shh, you're just stressed. You don't know what you're saying. Just quit your job and it'll all be alright."
Beca let the topic drop, knowing that Amy was done being helpful. Instead the two of them ate cup-of-noodles on Beca's bed, watching Netflix on Amy's phone - she was still connected to Bumper's account, a lot of weird stuff came up on her recommended.
Eventually Fat Amy went to bed. Beca stayed up waiting for Chloe, leaving multiple phone calls and texts on the woman's phone. It was much later, when Beca had dropped off into a fitful sleep, when Chloe slipped back in.
Chloe silently got into her pyjamas, before going over to the bed. Carefully she pulled the duvet out from underneath Beca, covering her up with it and tucking her in. Then Chloe herself got in. She cuddled close to Beca, holding Beca in her arms and breathing in her scent. As she felt the skinniness of Beca's body, she tried her very best not to cry.
The next day Chloe had already left for class when Beca left for work. Beca felt panicked at first, not remembering Chloe coming home that night at all.
But then she spotted the note on Chloe's pillow.
See you later, sleepyhead. Look after that hot little body for me while I'm away ;)
