I was there, in the middle of nowhere on the side of an old dirt road. It was night time, at least passed midnight and we were just standing under an old lamp post. I was with my child. Is this my child? I dont know. He was about a year or so old.

There was an old broken baby swing sitting on the ground. A scrony, but slightly muscular man was tying a small child into the old swing. The kid was absolutely filthy and looked about 6 or 7 years old. Matted hair, dirt dried all over the skin, with ripped clothes and no shoes. It was struggling, but not very much, it must have been very weak. It looked hurt and beaten. Once the man was done tying the poor thing down, he gave it a cow bell. The kid took the cow bell, looked at the man and stopped its struggling and crying.

It started to shake the cow bell as though every sound would earn itself a million dollars.

The man looked at me with sudden worry.

"Okay. Its done. We need to go! NOW!" He grabbed my arm that wasn't supporting the toddler and pulled me away from the tied up kid. I looked back; big mistake. I looked back at the child shaking the cow bell, and saw the child curl its lip out in a pout.

It stopped shaking the bell and reached its arm out to me, but didn't say anything. It was a silent plead: A plead for me to save it.

Why was I out here?

Why is it so dark?

What are we running from?

I ran along with the man as he let go of my arm and went into a house. It was lit up on the inside, but barely as all the windows were boarded up with the curtains shut. He opened the door and ushered me to walk in. When I entered, I set the toddler down in a play pin with a few other children. Now looking at the child I was holding, it was Glitch, from the dinner last night. The adorable one.

I sat down at a small table with the only light source being a lantern in the middle of the table. Everywhere else was dark. The small house looked abandoned, or scrapped. There were 3 other people there at the table. 2 guys and a girl. The girl was swaddling an infant and slightly rocking it to sleep.

"Something has to change around here if we want to survive." One of the men said just above a whisper.

Why are we being so quiet? I didn't know, but went with it, not wanting to find out what would happen if we weren't. Faintly, the cow bell could be heard, still rattling furiously. Desperate for attention, but was still ignored. Could they even hear it? Was it just me? I couldn't tell.

"What are we to do? Just catch it and burn it? Ha! Good luck to yee with that one." The other woman said with a slight Scottish accent.

"We can set traps." I said blankly.

Everyone at the table stopped and turned to me.

"Oh yeah, and what kind of traps do you think would be good enough to catch the beast?" One of the other men said, resting his elbos on the table to hold his head, challenging me.

"I don't know, something. I think we could mix some stuff together and work it out." I said challenging him back

The man that led me to this house sighed heavily and turned to me.

"Look, I'm sorry, but I think its time you went back to your place, it IS getting late."

Really? I had no idea what time it was, just that it was night, if it's this dark out and that is considered 'late', then I don't want to see if it can get darker. I stood up from my old, rotted chair and picked up the toddler from the play pin. I walked out of the house, and shut the door as quietly as possible.
