"Mm..." Oaklynn groaned weaklt as she opened her eyes, blinking a little. It took her a second to realize that she was in the medical bay, her head pulsing in time with her heartbeat as she took in the stark bedsheets.
Her eyes landed on slightly messy light brown hair, the male who owned it asleep. His muscular arms were crossed over his equally as muscular chest, his head tilted back as he dreamt. The chair from the corner of the little curtained off area had been pushed next to her bed, Oaklynn gently reaching over and nudging him awake.
"Adam...?" She whispered softly. His golden eyes opened quickly, blinking away the sleep he had been in as he took her in.
His arms were suddenly wrapped around her in a crushing hug, his face buried in her neck. "Oaks-! Shit, you've been out for a while...how do you feel...?" He asked, pulling back to assess her head and face. His thumbs were gentle across her cheeks, Oak smiling weakly. "I'm okay, you overprotective dork..." She giggled.
Adam leaned in and brushed his lips across hers, the small share of intimacy still making her face redden.
He sat next to her on the bed, despite the thing only being meant for one person. It groaned between their combined weight, Adam tucking her into his side.
She had always felt safe here, even when they were kids. It was like he had been forged with her in mind.
They spent a while like that before she heard the doors open gently, neither of them able to see who it was due to the curtains that seperated them from the rest of the room.
Despite not being able to see them, she could still smell the pine trees from her father, and lemon from her mother. She also smelled a soft mint - likely their preferred healer, Azeal. There was a soft vanilla weaved between all of those as well, likely Yrene, Adam's mother. Oaklymm angled her head a bit, so her arched ears could pick up on the conversation.
"-examined her, I found something...off. I always do a full exam on my usual patients, so its habit to scan the entire body. I double and triple checked, and then I had Azeal check three more times." Yrene's voice was gentle, as if she was telling them bad news.
Oak glanced to Adam quickly, her eyes wide. He squeezed her hand in knowing, his eyes sodt. They were full of love, adoration...
She listened some more, her eyes widening and her heart racing as Yrene spoke.
"Aelin, Rowan...please don't kill me. But...Oaklynn is pregnant."

(2018) Authors Note: HEHEHEHE cliffhanger ill post again a little later the day. I promise.

A/N: Well...it jumped to about 490 words. I think I developed Adam and Oak a bit more, as well as their relationship. They seem like actual *people* now. Anyway, hope you enjoy! (June 21, 2024)
