Sydney in the hospital bed with a drip in her right arm. Her hair is tossed carelessly on the pillow but she still looks gorgeous, even with the bags under her eyes.
"Do you think she can hear us?" The voice is deep but unknown.
"I don't know, it's different for everyone."
"He treats her differently to everyone else, have you noticed? I mean look at me, I'm a hitman, I kill people but yet I'm being paid to watch over her like a babysitter. He's afraid someone's actually going to take her."
"You know they're looking for her, that's why you're here. If they got hold of her..."
"Yeah I know, if they take her, they win. But all this for one girl, it makes you wonder..."
"Wonder what?"
"Nothing, just wake her up."
"Sure."
There's a beeping sound and Sydney starts to move, however her mind feels something is missing. How long has she been asleep?
"Okay, Sydney can you hear me? If you can nod your head gently."
Sydney does what she says.
"Right now, just slowly open your eyes. It will feel weird but after awhile it will feel normal again."
It did feel weird. It felt like Sydney eyes had been shut for longer than a couple of hours. But she did open them to see a friendly nurse and a man stood to the left far corner. The man almost blended into the wall, finding a corner that hid his face because of the harsh, dark light.
Sydney tries to open her mouth but nothing comes out. A million thoughts are running though her head.
"Sydney, your throats probably just dry and not used to speaking." The nurse gains Sydneys attention but she couldn't do anything but study the nurses face.
She had cropped muddy blonde hair that was in a low poly tail and high cheekbones. This was the type of girl that boys fell in love with at first sight. She looked like she could be a model.
She moves around the room to get a bottle of water.
"Here."
She holds the bottle for Sydney and Sydney nods thankfully.
"You've been out for quite a while. We didn't think you were going to make it. But I've been told you're a survivor. I'm going to ask you a couple of simple questions, just nod for yes and shake for no, okay?"
Sydney nods her head.
"I'm going to start off easy, is your full name Sydney Jackson?"
Sydney nods.
"Are you seventeen years old?"
Sydney nods.
"Do you remember the deal your father made?"
Sydney nods, she could never forget her father sold her to a mafia boss.
"Do you remember what happened the last time you were awake?"
Sydney knows about María but she doesn't know what María did to her. She knows María would never purposely hue her. Whatever María did, it would never harm her because Sydney was practically her daughter. She knows she has to keep this to herself and keep María safe at all times.
