PROLOGUE

All the color drained from his face, his eyes loosing the luster that always gave me hope that there was more, that there would be more, to this than to what was said. . . more than what had been done.

He had this energy that radiated off of him that brought light into the world even though he himself was as dark as the night. He was a perfect contrast, the image of sun and moon combining to form something so catastrophically beautiful that it would be considered almost suicidal to put yourself in his wake. But he was a beautiful disaster that had chipped pieces falling off of him, and he always referred to me as the super glue that was putting his missing pieces back together, that I was filling the cracked and holes to make him whole again.

The cliche story for the un-cliche couple.

It seemed as if everything slowed up, and every noise around me was canceled out as I watched him fall to the ground, his eyes never leaving mine. His mouth parted, blood starting to run down his lip, the tiny stream forming a small puddle beneath him. I was held back as my screams pierced through the air, but it seemed to me like a soft unceasing whisper in my subconscious.

My vision became so blurry that I could barely see his frame topple over, the man hitting him over the head. I screamed louder, fighting against the hands that were tugging at my arms and waist, trying to control my flailing mess of a body.

He looked up at me from the ground, his dark eyes connecting with my blurry ones. Barely audible over all the commotion surrounding us, I heard him say 'I love you'. Shock overcame my body as I fell myself grow limp in the man's hold.

My mouth fell open as I was pulled into a room, the doors slamming closed separating the two of us.

Just like the sun and the moon - always separate.
