"I don't know what the hell happened at the cafe with him, but I'm positive I know what he did in the alley," I pace back and forth as Amber sits on the edge of my bed, scrolling through the blog posts about the asshole, "He kept reiterating that it was just my imaginative mind, that I was conjuring this all up because I'm an author, but that's not the case."
"This does sound pretty far fetched though... I mean he looks and acts like an asshole towards you, but do you really think he could be that type of person where he goes around hurting others?" She questions me, "He may be an ass, but he couldn't be a cold hearted bastard who kills."
"He could be, but I just don't know for sure yet. I saw what he could do with his hands, who knows how skilled he could be with a knife or a gun," I sigh, sitting next to her, looking straight at the wall in front of me. The memory of watching those four kill the man, then mystery boy knocking them all to the ground kept replaying in my head, every detail still so fresh
The smell of the alley was stuck my nostrils, and all I could seem to inhale was the stench of rotten garbage. . . it could have been rotting flesh as well based on what happened today. Wouldn't surprise me one bit. It had to have happened, I'm not known to be crazy and no one in my family has a history of mental illness, so why was I allowing his act to plant doubts in my mind.
"You did drink a lot last night," She tries to reason the situation.
"But does drinking cause hallucinations?" I shot back, "No, only if some drug was slipped into a drink. So I'm not hallucinating," I fold my arms across my chest, shifting my gaze down to my laptop screen.
"You said you woke up at the cafe, correct?" I nod my head, "If your story is right, at what point did you fall asleep or pass out after you left the alley?" I sat there trying to recall when I fell asleep, but honestly, after he pulled me out of the alley, I don't remember anything.
"I— I don't know. . . I can't recall anything after that time. He pulled me out of there, and then everything is blurry after."
"Sounds like a dream to me."
"It wasn't a fucking dream!" I say louder then I intend to, "Sorry." I apologize after she flinches.
"Keep telling yourself that it was real, but eventually your brain will quit believing it." I scoff at her.
"You don't believe me, do you?" I whisper. I'm shocked, she's the closest thing I have to a best friend, she should believe me.
"I don't know, Y/N, I'm sorry, but this story of yours isn't adding up entirely. You weren't entirely there when you left this morning, and the fact that you don't remember anything last exiting the alley makes no sense. You should be able to remember how you managed to get back to the cafe."
"Well I don't, sorry." I'm upset now; she hasn't met him she's only heard what he's like from me, therefore she has no right to take his side on this, to claim that I in fact dreamt what happened. She's pissed me off, he's pissed me off, hell, this entire day has pissed me off, and the fact that my head was still throbbing wasn't helping.
I abruptly stand from my bed and rush towards the door, I can't stay here right now as I was so frustrated that no one seemed to believe me on this, the only people who probably would would be my readers, but even then I don't know.
"Where are you going?" Amber asks quietly.
"Out." I abruptly say as I grab my purse, slamming my bedroom door behind me.
*~*
I don't know why, and I don't know how, but I ended up at the grocery store, pushing a cart down every aisle and shoving every piece of junk food I could find into the basket. . . with a couple pre-made salads. I was planning on camping out in my room for a few days, work on a couple side projects handed to me, and pig out. I didn't want to see Amber for a bit, and I especially didn't want to see the damned mystery boy.
I was going to distance myself away from the cafe for a bit, get my head screwed on right before even thinking about going back down that street. He claims I'm insane and he somehow managed to convince my room mate that I am as well, and he hasn't even heard of or even met her. To hell with both of them right now.
My phone begins to buzz in my purse so I pull it out, thinking it's my boss, but when I see Amber's name pop up I hit decline and stuff it back into my purse. I may be overreacting again but damn, it hurts to know that people think you're crazy for thinking that something like that could have happened.
I turned into the next aisle over, my attention getting caught by a two for one sale on cookies, and while my eyes are locked on the packaging my cart rams into another. "Oh, fuck, come on." I say once my eyes land on the mystery boy standing before me.
"Nice to see you too." He smirks at me, tapping his thumbs on the handle bar.
"Just fuck off and leave me alone." I mutter.
"I do believe you were the one who crashed into me with their cart," He points down to my basket, eyeing all the junk food, "Are you seriously going to buy all that junk, you're crazy if you are."
"Says the man buying kale." I shoot back, looking into his cart as well to see all the health foods, plus a bag of chips, but even those were the vegetable straws.
"I'd rather buy foods that benefit my health rather than deteriorate it."
"And I'd rather buy food with flavor, now get out of my way I'd like to check out." I shove at his cart with mine, but it doesn't do anything, it just rolls back a bit.
"Did someone twist your panties around? You're sour." He crinkles his nose, causing me to snort. Is he serious?
"Like I should tell you, you wouldn't believe me. I'm crazy remember?" I back away from him and then around, heading towards the front of the store, but sadly he follows me.
"You're only crazy some of the time."
"Some of the time?" I question as I place my groceries on the conveyor belt.
"When you're passed out, that's when you're not." I stop what I am doing and clench my jaw.
"You're an ass."
"So I've been told. What are you doing on this side of town?" Why is he pestering me. . . Can't he take himself and his kale elsewhere?
"I wanted to go for a drive and ended up here." I state, placing the last item on the belt.
"Hmm..." He places the divider behind my things and starts to load his groceries on the belt, not pressing any more conversation with me which I was glad. I paid for my load and quickly left the market, finding my car and basically throwing all of the bags in the trunk. I fished for my keys as I pulled open my car door and got inside, trying to turn on my car, but it wouldn't turn over. I tried again and again but it still wouldn't start.
Groaning, I place my head on the steering wheel, slamming my forehead a couple times against it in frustration. I was on the opposite end of town with the only car Amber and I had. Life just wants to fuck me over today, doesn't it?
As I'm wallowing in my self pity, a loud knock comes from my window which startles me. I turn to look and there's mystery boy, standing with his cart behind him.
"What do you want?" I groan out as I push my door open.
"Is your car not starting?" He points at my piece of shit of machinery.
"It's just being temperamental." I huff, kicking the tire like it would magically roar to life.
It's quiet between us for a few moments, then he clears his throat, "Well, I could give you a ride."
