JULIET FELT LIKE a stereotypical love-stick teenage girl and she loved it. She loved the way her heart raced, her face flushed and how gigely she got just thinking about her mysterious lover. Romeo.
They had spent the whole night dancing, moving to the rhythm. Juliet had been overcome with happiness, her night exceeded the perfect image she had imagined.
"...and he was a spectacular dancer." Juliet squealed into the phone against her ear as she told Zoë about the previous night's adventure.
"Wow, this is new." Juliet could almost see the grin on Zoë's face through the phone. She had been urging Juliet on to like someone for years. Juliet gigled. "Who do you think he is?"
"I'm not sure." Zoë mentally listed off the boys in their year. "He had tan skin, right?"
"Yes, and beautiful, thick, dark curly hair swept to his right."
"I could name a few boys who could possibly fit into that category but I'm not sure." Zoë pursed her lips. "You know what? Come over, we can sort this out together over ice cream."
"On my way." Juliet jumped up, grabbing her jumper laying over her desk chair and rushing out of her room.
"Going to Zoë's!" She called out to her mum.
"Alright, hun. Love you." Her mum yelled in reply.
"Love you too!" Juliet swung the door open and closed quickly, fishing through her pocket for her keys and unlocking her car.
She hoped in, placing her phone on the passenger set before driving off to her best friend's house only a few streets down.
Zoë opened the front door as soon as she heard the engine of Juliet's car cut off.
"Welcome home." She grinned as Juliet exited her car.
Juliet grinned, hugging her friend who, she noted, was still in her pyjamas. It was likely she hadn't been up too long, Zoë loved to sleep in, especially after a big night.
"Let's figure out who this mysterious boy of yours is." Zoë cut straight to the chase, grabbing Juliet's wrist and dragging her inside, shutting the door behind her.
"Is that Juliet?" Zoë's dad, Lin, called out.
"Yep." Juliet replied, joy evident in her voice.
"We're just gonna hang in my room." Zoë told him.
"Alright, I'll bring some snacks down later." Lin replied. He was a fantastic cook.
"Thanks dad." Zoë replied before disappearing into the girl's messy room. Clothes were strewn all over the floor and Juliet had to watch her step as to avoid stepping on any underwear.
"Ignore the mess." She instructed as usual, sitting on her bed. "We've got more important things to worry about, anyway, such as Juliet's first crush!"
Zoë opened a word document, typing in her previous comments a title, bolding the words.
OPPERATION JULIET'S FIRST CRUSH
They made Juliet's heart flutter with excitement as she imagined the prospect. Her actually having a crush on a boy. One who's identity is absolutely secret, which was ever so romantic in her eyes.
"Let's start with the description of your mysterious lover." Zoë inquired, "Explain all you remember."
"Well, he was tall, about half a head taller than me. Light, naturally tan skin and beautiful chocolate brown eyes. His hair was thick and curly, a dark brown swept to his right and that's about all." Juliet explained, somewhat dreamily, laying beside Zoë on her bed.
"That's it? No extra details like stubble or freckles or anything?" Zoë raised his eyebrows as she finished typing this description.
"Well, no, I was too caught up in dancing with him to notice." Juliet pursed her lips.
Zoë shook her head in disappointment, "C'mon, girl, you've got to step up your game!" She sighed, "What's done is done, though, and we'll have to work of what we've got." Zoë reached to her floor, swooping her arms under her bed before producing a book. Their last year's year book.
She opened the thick volume, flicking through endless photos and articles, before reaching the photographs of last year's student body, year eleven in particular.
"Let's start with Jasper Anderson." Zoë's finger landed on the jock's face, "He matches your description but the sweetness of your Romeo isn't present in this guy, unless he was a secret sensitive side." He finger moved further down the page, "Jonathan Howard, matches both parts of your description but is a flaming homosexual." She moved to the next page, "Ezekiel Lando, prime candidate but so is his best friend, Dylan McClain." She then flipped the page. "Finally, Harry Turnbull, matches description though personality is a little off." She handed the book to Juliet.
The girl examined Zoë's suggestions as the latter mentioned girl typed out the possible bachelors. Juliet knew all thr boys but not too well. One of them had to be her Romeo, she knew it.
Zoë turned to screen to Juliet, "I've got the names, now you've got to do the investigation."
OPERATION JULIET'S FIRST CRUSH
Zoë's master plan to finding out the mystery man behind the mask
Description
A handsome stranger half a head taller than Juliet, he has naturally tan skin and chocolate brown eyes, his hair thick and swept to the right.
Possibilities
Jasper Anderson- Matches the description Juliet has provided though his personality does not line up, he's known to be quite the jerk and unless a soft, sensitive side is hidden he is an unlikely Romeo
Jonathan Howard- Though he matches both of Juliet's descriptions, he is very much gay. Not Romeo.
Ezekiel Lando- A kind, sensitive soul who matches both of Juliet's descriptions. Very likely Romeo.
Dylan McClain- Exactly the same as Ezekiel along with being his best friend. Just as likely to be Romeo.
Harry Turnbull- Matches Juliet's description though his personality is off, he seems like someone not into romantic ordeals such as the one that Juliet experienced.
