chapter four!
to move is to stir; and
to be valiant is to stand:
therefore, if thou art
moved, thou runn'st away"WHAT DO YOU mean he didn't go to the ball?" Zoë burst out rather loudly when Juliet met her at lunch at the latter mentioned girl's locker.
"He didn't attend, he said so himself." Juliet affirmed.
"That's impossible, he's the only other guy who matches your description. Other than Jonathan, if course." Zoë replied, "Are you sure they were all telling the truth?"
"Certain." Juliet nodded, "None of them are Romeo."
Zoë let out a loud sigh of frustration. "Back to square one, I guess."
Juliet simply have her an awkward smile before shutting her locker, swinging her bag over her shoulder.

All of lunch Juliet spent her time on Instagram, scrolling through posts in search of anyone who could be her Romeo. During fifth period, she scanned the class and listed off people mentally but none of them matched Romeo. Nobody looked like him, acted like him. It was as if Romeo didn't exist past the ball.
Juliet considered the fact that maybe she had dreamt of and imagined Romeo but the night they spent together was too vivid, real, memorable to be a dream. Romeo had to be somewhere.
Romeo had to be someone.
Whilst laying in bed, Juliet stared at her white wall. Her mum never did get to painting her room, Juliet took note that she had to remind her of that.
The wall was blank, empty, lonely. Juliet felt somewhat like it.
She didn't know what to do, where to look. Romeo wasn't any of the guys in her year. He managed to stay hidden in the shadows, just out of Juliet's sight. Leaving Juliet alone and confused.
He wasn't any of the guys Juliet realised, what if he were a girl?
Juliet's eyes widened before she shook the thought off. Romeo couldn't be, Juliet hadn't taken note of any feminine body parts and their voice was deep.
Then again, Juliet's eye for detail was less than admirable. She had only noticed Romeo's hair, eyes and skin tone. It was possible.
It can't be Juliet assured herself I'm not attracted to girls.
She tried to shake the thought off, bury it deep in her brain, but it was still present, whispering to her that it's a possibility. Juliet had never been aware of attraction towards anyone, why couldn't she be attracted to a girl?

The next day, Juliet found herself very distraught. The thoughts of the previous night were persistent and had grown loud.
"Are you alright, honey?" Juliet's mother had asked whilst serving herself breakfast.
"I, um..." Juliet pursed her lips. Her mother and her had always been close and Juliet had never been afraid to confide in her. Now, though, she felt a tinge of fear, scared of how her mother would react to her thoughts. She'd never talked to Juliet about anything of the sort.
"I think I like someone." She decided.
"Really? Tell me about them." Her mother finished pouring milk into her cereal. "Is he hot?"
"I guess. I mean, I don't actually know who they are." Juliet let out a small laugh at her mother's comments.
"That's odd." Her mother raised an eyebrow.
Juliet explained what had happened at the ball, not missing out a single detail.
"How romantic." Juliet's mother smiled, "Do you have an idea who they are?"
"I did but none of them turned out to be them. I think, maybe..." She trailed off.
"Maybe?" Her mum nodded for her to continue.
"Nevermind." Juliet smiled sadly.

"Why the long face?" Zoë asked as soon as she layed eyes on Juliet. "Sad you can't find your Romeo?"
"Yeah." Juliet sighed softly, "Yeah, I guess that's it."
"You guess?" Zoë raised her eyebrows.
"It's nothing." Juliet shook her head.
"I'm your best friend, Juliet, I can tell it's a lot more than nothing." Zoë persisted.
"I'm serious, Zoë, it's nothing."
Juliet let out an aggravated sigh before storming off into the nearest bathroom.
Juliet felt bad about how she had shut down her best friend like that, after all the effort she had gone to for her. She just didn't feel like explaining what her brain was telling her. The thoughts, thoughts about girls.
Juliet stared at herself in the bathroom mirror, brown eyes cast down with tears lining them. She tied her long, black hair back into a ponytail, shaking her head.
The door opened and Juliet's head snapped to see who it was, quickly wiping her eyes free of tears and plastering a smile onto her face.
A tan skinned girl strolled in, her hair short and curly and eyes chocolate brown. She smiled sweetly at Juliet, eyes full of joy. "Hey, Juliet."
The voice was oddly familiar, deep for a girl.
Her figure was broad, strong and chest small.
Her eyes, hair and skin brown.
Rowan.
A girl.
Juliet's fears were correct.
She was Romeo.
