~ Chapter Nine ~
Picking up Susie was a sinch. The girl was beaming ear to ear and just a promised, there was no hastle from her folks. I got her a corsage for her dress which seemed to make her even happier, and to be perfectly truthful, she looks gorgeous. Sure, she's a little heavy-set and her hair is curlier than most, but her smile is killer, her personality seems great, and her eyes are endless. It's hard to believe there's an idiot out there that would stand her up- he must be just that- an idiot.I no longer feel like I'm doing her a favor, but more like she's doing me the favor really.
The ride to the dance was pleasant, she has a great sense of humor and is pretty good with keeping up a conversation. This isn't really as bad as I thought it would be, but I'm still really looking forward to seeing Anna. Yeah yeah, I'm with a perfectly nice, pretty, and overall great girl- and I've still got Anna on my mind throughout the whole thing. H-o-p-e-l-e-s-s. That's me.
Once we arrive though Susie wastes no time getting inside to the action, I'm sure she's dying to go have some fun with her friends. I won't stop her. Just for show though and her benefit, I offer to enter with her- just so people see she didn't arrive alone. She's pretty cheeky, and agrees with a coy smile and a wink, which just makes me laugh.
We walk through the doors together and I'm surprised to see the place is wild. Not really sure what I was expecting? But it's just crazy, kids are everywhere, the dance floor is bursting with energy, and the music is thumping my eardrums farther into my head- this place is awesome!
Susie seems to agree as her smile spreads widely across her face, then once we're safely inside the doors, she's gone from my side. Of course not without a polite "see ya" from her. For some reason, her leaving has me feeling sort of helpless. Especially since I can't find Anna anywhere.
Keeping my eyes peeled I head over toward the punch table. Snagging a drink, I take a swig only to spit some out as I realize this shit is already spiked. Damn, these juniors move fast! Deciding to skip on the hydrating, I move to a far wall and watch the dance floor. A few younger girls seem to notice me, but I'm guessing none of them are brave enough to approach. Most of these guys know I'm not a junior, I'm on the Varsity Football team afterall.
Deciding to ignore them I keep scanning the crowd for Anna. Finally I spot Davey and sure enough there's Anna, too- staring right back at me.
My eyebrow quirks of it's own accord as I catch sight of her, but she quickly looks away when she realizes I've caught her staring. Feeling puzzled I decide to approach. I weave my way carefully through the crowd of pulsating bodys to near the center where they are. Anna doesn't seem to notice my approach, so I tap her shoulder and Davey's at the same time.
My little bro smiles at the sight of me and pats my back. He tries to speak, but it's way too loud to hear anything. Anna just looks at me, her eyes emotionless and her smile small and forced. What's with her?
Davey motions for us to leave the floor so we can actually hear each other. I nod and lead the way, the two of them following close behind. It's not till we're out of the crowd though that I realize there's a third member to their party. A little, petite, brunette, with big hazel eyes, rosy pink lips, and a dazzling smile to match. Who the hell is this?
Davey must notice my puzzlement at this mystery chick, because he turns to her suddenly and wraps a firm arm around her with a big grin.
"Oh yeah, man, this is Jess, my date," he introduces, realization hits and I smile at her.
