~ Chapter One ~

"Shut the hell up, Donny! Get out of here!" My little brother yells at me while Anna throws a pillow at me, groaning loudly in agreement with her best friend.

Snickering I dash out of the room, apparently they don't appreciate sexual innuendos, hm? Hey, what am I supposed to think when I see two people, a girl an a boy, same age, very closefriends, sitting in the same bed facing each other- rather closely? Well sadly, I probably didn't even think what any normal person should have. I was actually damn jealous. Ridiculous, right? But yeah, so as a second thought, I came up with something snarky to say just so they would separate a little.

As I make my way to my room my snickers fade quickly and my smile is just as easily replaced with a scowl. Without realizing what I'm doing, I slam the door shut hard behind me. Oops, that might raise a few eyebrows. Eh, who cares, Anna already thinks I'm an angry bastard with a bad attitude most of the time anyway.

With a grunt, I fall down face first on my bed. The anger makes me suddenly really hot, so I rip my shirt off. Then suddenly, I'm tired. It's like freaking, noon? Nap-time. Sounds good to me.

Just as I'm about to start dosing off, I hear a scream. A loud-pitched, girlish, almost blood curdling scream. Sadly it's all too familiar to me- it's Anna. Instantly I jump out of bed and in a flash am already three strides down the hall by the time my door swings open fully to hit against the wall behind it. I can't help but imagine a killer breaking in through the window or a burglar coming through the house to harm Anna and this makee me move all the more faster. My brother's room is on the third floor along with my little sister's- Cally.

As I begin making my way up the stairs, slowly, I snag a tennis racket propped against the wall. It's pink, probaby Cally's. With light feet I ascend each step slowly and carefully. I hear no more screaming, but a bunch of banging and jumbling around. What the hell?

Suddenly I remember how I saw them last. Facing each other, sitting close on the bed, their eyes locked... oh no. Please, God, I hope I'm wrong. What if I barge in on them and they're like- I shake my head and stop. If I'm right, then I better just turn back now. Lest I be forever scarred! But if I'm wrong, Anna and my brother could be brutally murdered as I stand here.

Oh decisions, decisions. Swallowing hard I hold up the tennis racket slowly, tightening my grip and tensing up my whole body. Then ever so carefully I finish my climb. Once I stand before his door, I take one deep breath, count to three, then barge into the room- yelling like the Hulk.

"Ahhh!" Anna screams as I enter, but it's not from my entrance, Davey, or some masked murderer I learn quickly, as she goes on by yelling, "get it Dave! Quick! Where'd it go?"

Next I see Dave himself across the room, with a shoe in his hand, totally enthralled in searching for what I'm guessing is- a bug.

"Damn it, Anna! I thought you guys were being murdered up here," I complain loudly, tossing my weapon of choice onto a chair without a care. My previous alertness and energy is drained as I realize there was no real problem. Though of course, I'm pretty glad I was wrong about both of my previous assumptions.

She turns around looking flustered, looks me over very quickly- I barely notice- then seeming either flushed or she's blushing, she replies with red cheeks,

"Oh, uh, I'm sorry. It was just a big- er, spider. Or something. It crawled onto my arm and I flung it across the room. I'm sure it's dead, but I wanna be sure."

She bites her bottom lip, looks me over quickly once more, then turns away. I decide to investigate and look down at myself, realize I'm shirtless, and without effort a smirk forms on my lips. She just checked me out! Ha! Suddenly a new sort of confidence floods my being and I end up almost strutting into the room. I breeze right past her, push my brother out of the way and look for this stupid spider. Spotting it almost too quickly, I nab it by the leg, dangle it out in front of me and show Anna.

Her jaw almost drops, but quickly a disgusted grimace graces her pretty face.

"Ewe, get rid of it," she mutters and shies away- even though the thing is a good ten feet away from her. Keeping up the act I pretend to flick it at her, making her squeal, then open the nearest window and toss it out. Live long and prosper, spider.

Fighting a grin I square my shoulders and sail out of the room. As I pass Anna I wink, she'll take it as cocky- which it is sorta- but I'm still doing it secretly to flirt, too. She responds to my wink just as expected, by glaring at me with those shiny, big, brown eyes. I've become so used to this expression of her's that it only stings a little now.

"Close the door," Davey calls out to me as I exit, but I ignore him and keep walking as if I didn't hear him. I hear both of them sigh simultaneously as I reach the stairs and of course, suddenly, I'm sad again. The door slams shut.

The only spark of hope or happiness I have is that she actually checked me out. May have just been, I don't know, because I'm a shirtless male, but it was still cool. I might have to go shirtless more often around here. With a devious smile on my face I trod downstairs, probably to go back to sleep. To dream about Anna- of course.

NOTE: Hope you enjoyed this. The chapters really aren't that long, but that's good 'cause it's a short story- right? :) And yeah, Donny is the guy from the prologue. He's a different kinda guy, eh? Anyway thanks for all the amazing support on the prologue and I hope it continues with this first chapter!

Love, Lily
