3rd POV
'Just one more week left till the sports festival.'
[Name] elicited a disheartened sigh.
Truth be told, she wasn't training to her full potential—or that's what she thought as [Name] heaved another heavy sigh, plopping onto the grassy terrain surrounding her. Since she wasn't allowed to use her Quirk in public, [Name] settled on a small, reclusive acre of land that was a few blocks from her apartment. After having coming across a foreign route jutting towards who-knows-where and due to thecuriosity fueling the flame inside of her, [Name] now found herself in an empty place.
Aside from the patches of grass basking under the dim light of the day and the old swing propped in one corner, there was a huge building wall littered across the pearly-white walls with smudges of dirt, as if children had repeatedly kicked a ball against it.
Albeit her small progress, [Name] was at least content that Nejire was getting by with her Quirk. Her shock waves were still disastrous and cosmic, but her fear and doubt diminished bit by bit with each practice she and the blue-haired teen prepared. They spent most of their weekdays after school practicing to no end in the gymnasium and at Ground Beta B, using the infrastructure to their best advantage.
"I'll do my best!" Nejire had said at their last practice session together. "I'll definitely try to win first place!"
And as for [Name]; the sole quick she was able to improve was her mobility in the air, and her close-combat skills were more or less the same. But she felt as if she was much lighter on her feet than before. If she was speedy in the sky, then why not on land? It was good progress for the time being.
Her deepest concern, however, was the move she was currently struggling to hone in the last remaining week. It was more of a defense mechanism in case she was running out of ideas in a match; the real purpose was to protect herself. 'Crystal-sis' [Name] liked to call it since it had a nice ring to it, and it wasn't exceptionally extraordinary.
By wrapping her azure blue wings around her body, [Name] could harden the giant wings into silk and form a cocoon like a little caterpillar ready to metamorphose; along with that, she could also secrete her powder through the silk, which could be helpful. But the problem was that no matter how hard she tried and pushed herself, [Name] could never understand the trick to hardening her wings. It was utterly useless whenever she tried.
And it became vexing every single second.
"What's the deal? I did it last time," she mumbled incoherently under her breath, grabbing a fistful of grass with her fingers in irritation.
It was by pure luck that she had done it, but once in Junior High, [Name] was paired up with the one big bully of the class and things did not turn out well. Yanking hair and shoving each other, she felt so threatened by the menace that she activated her Quirk instinctively and involuntarily formed a silken cast around herself for protection.
It didn't last long but the teacher had arrived just in the nick of time to catch both of them.
So here [Name] was, frustrated and grating her teeth.
Everything seemed to be flowing smoothly with Nejire and the rest, yet she felt like she was going to be the only weakling at the sports festival. She could already picture Haru's smug grin and him beating her to a pulp while he snagged first place, a golden medal slung around his neck. Mirio was quite buff and strong, so [Name wouldn't be surprised if he reached quite far in the preliminary rounds.
The same thing applied for Tamaki and Nejire: they both equally had powerful Quirks, and with the proper mentality training for Tamaki, there was no doubt that he could rage like a hurricane and sweep people off their feet with his strength. While [Name] was solely an itty-bitty insect, the lone thought making her laugh a bit.
