"Hey Alyssa!" Called my best friend, Laney from across the room.

I jumped over to her from where I was standing. I cooed back a "Sup Laney, what's hip?" I said in an attempt to be cool, I did this often.

I was mid-conversation with Laney when something in my mind just snapped. I saw a cute guy, with his blonde hair in a neat quiff, approach and I was surprised that Laney didn't pounce and attack him yet.

He came up to is and I said 'hi'. An he replied back "hey" and I can't ever forget the look Laney was giving me.

"What are you looking at Alyssa?" Laney asked me sounding very confused.

I thought once I pointed to him she would understand. I pointed in the boy's direction and Laney turned and then quickly turned back looking more confused. I just simply figured she didn't think he was cute.

But was I wrong.

I just chose not to ignore the figure now approaching me and my best friend, who I honestly have no idea how I met her she just suddenly appeared and became my best friend of 7 years, I ran off to the bathroom to fix myself with Laney hot on my trail.

I walked out and began to approach the boy I had spotted a few moments before.

I said a simple 'hello' and then I felt a tap on my shoulder to turn and come face to face with a very familiar face. "What the heck are you doing!" She yelled quite loudly. I replied "I'm talking to someone!" jokingly yelling back at her. Laney had seemed to change her face from to angry I had just seen back to the concerned look she gave me before.

"Alyssa are you okay?" She asked very meekly.

"Yes, I'm fine why wouldn't I be?" I answered back to her.

"I don't mean to disappoint you, but the 'person' you talking to" she added air-quotes "is not there".

My jaw dropped and looked around to see other strange looks facing me. I quickly ran out of the room down the hall and stairs. I had finally stopped to sit on the stairs in front of the office building -Laney and I had internships to during the summer.

An I began to cry.

I looked up to the feeling of someone's hand on my shoulder, I looked up to find Laney looking down at me and soon joining me on the stairs. She looked different than she usual, but I soon put the pieces together.

She looked as if she had just seen a ghost but I thought nothing of it. I just inhabited the fact that this was a sign.

A sign that something was terribly wrong with my mind and it was only going to get worse.
