Long gone are those days when you had to get up early in the morning, take a long shower and clean shave, put on your best clothes and in some cases, classic suits! And then buying a rose on the way to the café where you would be waiting at a table with a cup of coffee in your hand for the girl who you had asked out the day before with all the gut that you could humanly have.
And finally when she arrives, you hand over the rose, and the rest of the date just passes by as a formality because now you are a couple just after a single date and then like a gentleman, you walk her to her house and in return, you get a kiss on your cheek.
Booyah!!! You got hitched!!!
Well, that stuff is now a thing of the past. And now ,if u get caught doing any of that stuff...dude ...may your soul rest in peace.
But what about now? What has changed?
Well, except the 2 people of the opposite gender, everything has changed.
Now we have Tinder.
Swipe swipe swipe till you find a girl /boy who pleases your eyes and makes you curious enough to drop a 2 letter word in their inbox 'hi'. And boom, you have a date for the night. And don't even think about café because now, we have nightclubs.
(if you are looking for a fling of course)Pleasantries and polite talks are replaced by shots of vodka and incessant flirting. And if you play your cards right, you might even get lucky for the night! If you knw what I mean...
So why am I telling you this?
Because it's a little intro to the story I am about to share with you. A story about the retro love in the midst of this modern day anarchy.
This story is about 2 guys and 2 girls.
And all of them were completely opposite of each other. And they lived in the opposite corners of the country too.
Let's start with our girls,
Our first girl is from the land of 7 sisters, Assam.
Her name was Lipa Sharma.
Born in a middle-class Brahmin family she knew all there was to know about: cooking food with enough masala that could make you curse MDH for its service, bargaining the shit out of the shops and finding happiness in the little things that crossed her. And don't you dare forget about the soap operas on the T.V."You have to clean the kitchen, and also this room till I come back, " her mom said as she was getting ready to go out for office.
Li was yet to get out of bed as she spent the night reading her favorite novel about a guy with fangs not wanting to drink the blood of the girl he loves yet the girl manages to get herself into such situations all the time. Talk about wrong influences.
"Okay..." she whimpered inside the pillow.
Her mom was just on the verge of being declared as an OCD patient because of her constant lookout for the tidiness and cleanliness of the entire house. And the effect of this was suffered by Li as she toiled around all day cleaning the house, washing clothes, doing the dishes and what not!
But could she say No? Absolutely NOT!
unless she has a death wish! Her mom left in a hurry and raced down the flight of stairs of the apartment they lived in. She was late for work as always. After all its not easy to be on time when you have to cook for everyone before leaving for work each day.
The best part of the day for Li was that she was alone at home for the entire day. Her dad worked in a bank who left early and came late. And her little brother Anik was in high school. So, she had the whole day to herself. And you might ask what she did all day? Well, she spent the entire day on the internet.
Social media was her friend and youtube was her companion. She spent the day talking to her best friend and watching videos on DIY things.
So just like every day, she got up from her bed, and before doing anything she picked up the phone and went back to bed and opened Instagram. And just like clockwork, her best friend was online as well, coincident?
"Hey"
"Gd morning""Gd morning"
"Watsup?""Just got up"
"Feeling soo sleepy "
"Cn I call ?""Yeah you can "
Don't be surprised with her asking the permission to call, her best friends family was not exactly an open-minded family and calls from girls could mean the Armageddon!
"Hey, I am so bored"
"Haha! You always are" he said sarcastically.
"Yeah yeah.."
"Didn't your mom give you some works to do ?" He said to annoy her.
"Ughh she always does" she rolled her eyes even though he couldn't see it.
"So tell me, what are you gonna do now?"
"Umm, I don't know ..."
"As always, "he said with a sigh.
She giggled and they continued talking for the next 1 and half hour till their call got cut off by jio's call duration limit. But it could not stop them from re-dialing of course. And they continued there long talks like every day. After all, after jio's free talk time, phone balance was no longer an issue and talks lasted for as long as we don't fall asleep.
" Ok, I should really go if I don't do what mom told me, she will kill me," she said "literally "
"Okk, see you in the evening then ?"
"Ok" she added "love you, sweetheart "
She could feel him blushing from the other end of the phone like a little girl. And she loved to do this. Everytime."Hehe "
"Ok then bye"
"See ya"
And she cut the call. It was then that she realized she hadn't even brushed her teeth. She shook her head and she got out of bed and put her phone on charge.
After getting done with all the work she was assigned, she let out a sigh of relief but that didn't mean that she was saved. Her mom always found something or the other wrong in the house.
But she was too exhausted to even move a muscle and as she lay on the bed, she fell asleep.
What she didn't know was that her life was about to change. But let's not spoil it just yet.
