The car pulled up to the special facility headquarters that had been built by L. Artemis stared out the window, up at the high rise building before her. She slumped back in the seat and cross her arms.

"Real inconspicuous, no one is gonna notice that!" Artemis said sarcastically, gesturing to the task force headquarters. "Just like L, make a big show of everything! After all, he's the world's best detective, no best three detectives!."

Watari turned around and gave her a silent look, one of scolding. As a parent would do to a disrespectful child. She raised her hands in surrender. "Alright, I know. I'm sorry. I'll try to behave." She said. Watari was the only person she would bother to listen to, everyone else, she pretty much ignored.

"Good. It's not easy on L, you know that." Watari said as gave her a sympathetic smile before getting out, he opened the side door for her.

As they walked up Artemis eyed the bag full of assorted sweets that Watari carried, it reminded her of the days back at Wammy's where he would bring each of them their treats. For L it would be sweets, BB jam and for her, drawing utensils.

After numerous security procedures they were inside and there sat L. He faced the countless screens, sitting in his usual manner and a cake in front of him. Next to him sat a young man, in a simple suit. Both were hard at work and also handcuffed to each other. All alone in the quiet, spacious room. Not a word passed between them.

Watari gestured for Artemis to follow him as he walked over to L, sweets in hand. She crossed her arms like a stubborn child, she now regretted even coming. But before she could turn and run, L had already seen her.

Huffing, she walked over to the raven haired detective. The young man beside L had also seen her. She scowled at them both, slightly uneasy. She tried to remember the last time she had actually went out and been around other humans, it had been months.

"Ah Artemis, you did come." L greeted her. Before Artemis could retort, both her and L were interrupted by the other young man.

"I'm Light Yagami, and who's this?" He said, turning to L as he asked the last part. He looked to be just out of high school, so young. Artemis flicked her hair back in annoyance at his interruption.

"This is Artemis, my frie-" L said looking towards Artemis but she cut him off before he could finish the sentence.

"Acquaintance." She corrected the detective. Staring coldly into his black eyes, concentrating on that one difference. The one difference between the copy and the original. The eyes. One red, one black.

Light looked between the two, his eyes resting on Artemis. "I thought you said I was your first friend." He finally announced, staring suspiciously at the slightly older girl.

L was about to reply but Artemis beat him to it. "He lied." She stated coldly. "I know this better than anyone." She could have sworn she had seen L flinch slightly, but concluded that it must have just been her imagination.

Watari came over, "I thought I told you to behave. And Ryuuzaki I will be going now." He stated, handing L his tea and sweets, before departing.

"Ryuuza- you didn't?" She said in almost disbelief. She knew that L now had the title considering he won the detective war, although she doesn't classify it as 'winning'.

Light looked even more confused as he looked at the two, oblivious to the deep history between them.

L stood up from his chair and walked over to the small room that was connected to the main one, a glass panel was the only thing looking into the room. L looked over to Light, "I need to speak with her in private." Light nodded as L shut the door behind Artemis and himself. The chain of the handcuff stretched underneath the door to where the other man stood.
