Artemis finally finished arranging all of her carvings, which now took up the majority of her floor space. She dusted herself off and looked down at her work, proud yet critical. This particular piece was not just a simple piece of art, certainly not.

It was the analysis of the Kira case, in wooden minaturised form.

She knelt down and carefully picked up numerous carvings, moving them around strategically, as if she were playing a game of chess. She would move on piece and pick another up, shifting and examining the scene before her.

Artemis got to her feet and loomed over the miniature figures, it had seemed that she had placed out every possibility with the wooden forms and was proceeding to do so mentally as well. She gave a quick nod and turned, striding out the door.

L sat next to Light, carefully working on the case. Since the discovery of the Yotsuba stock risings, L had released Light from his handcuffs, but that didn't mean that L wasn't constantly watching him anymore. But Yotsuba was their prime suspect here, thus much of L's time was taken up with figuring out this new part of the case. The case that seemed to be ever evolving and shifting, much like a virus.

Artemis appeared before L and requested his help with 'something', to which he complied. For she did not really need his help, but she did not want the task force members knowing of her private workings, especially Light.

"So, what do you think?" She asked stepping aside so that L could get full view of her work.

He nodded and scanned over all the carvings, "You've been busy."

"Is that all you have to say?!" Artemis snapped, putting her hands on her hips. L turned to face her and she shook her head, "Sorry... temper..." She looked at the ground.

L almost chucked, "You always were one with a quick temper."

She looked up, "Remember the colouring pencil incident?" She smiled slightly, looking over at the raven haired detective before her.

"You mean the one were I broke your pencils so you held me hanging half out of the window on the third floor?"

"Yes I do believe so." She laughed, "And you never broke my pencils again." She shook her head, "Anyway, back to business. I have assessed every possible situation and they all seem to point to Light, but there is definitely a missing piece here. If we could only find that piece it would make everything fit perfectly. But I can't think of anything that would make this make sense."

L bent down and analysed the wooden carved scene before him more closely, "Light has been my prime suspect from the very start, and I do agree that this also portrays him as guilty but yes, there is something missing. That is all for today, Artemis."

He turned to walk away but Artemis stopped him, "L, wait! I just wanted to say that don't you think that you're becoming a bit too close with Light. He is your prime suspect after all. And ... you could get hurt, especially in this case which is unlike any other."

"It's not the first time one of us has gotten too close to a murderer Artemis." He said simply and walked off.

Artemis balled her fists and stormed into her room, slamming the door behind her, which caused many of the carvings to fall onto their sides. She snatched up her carving of L and Light and sat down on the floor.

With the two small carvings, she placed them in the middle of the floor, close together and facing each other. She looked carefully at the two figures before her.

"Something is up..." She muttered, not once glancing away from the L and Light carvings, "Does L?.... No, he can't possibly... can he?"

She flopped back on the linen covered, double bed. The sun disappeared over the looming skyscrapers of the city, beams of sunlight peaking from behind buildings here and there. Artemis rolled to her side and stared at the floor, many of her carefully crafted carvings were strewn everywhere. "I should have been a bit more careful ..." She thought to herself.

No matter how much she weighed the situation, and how much she thought it to be an impossibility, she couldn't get one thought out of her mind.

She pushed herself up of her elbows and turned to face the wall across from her bed, in the middle of the floor stood two figures.

"Could L possibly have feelings for Light?"
