She scared her. It was like she felt something unknown before. She confused her.
It felt good.
---------------------I was driving home for my mom. Apparently my friends decided to come over as a surprise to cheer me up. I know they meant well but I kind of hoped that I could have spent more time with Ivy. She was nice and listened to me. She didn't talk much which was kind of weird for a girl but she was sweet. She was different. A good different. A scary different.
I like my friends. They are predictable and easy to please. Ivy seemed like she had friends like her. Different and sweet. Thinking of her friends I thought about Madeline. She was quiet and odd. She seemed like she wasn't all there. Like she was always on the verge of ripping someone's throat out. She was a bad kind of different. Not to mention rude. She hadn't even acknowledged me. I didn't mind driving her but the least she could have said was thank you.
I snapped out of my thought long enough to check the mail and drive up to the house. It was small compared to some of my friends but I liked it.
"Where were you?" Lucas asked as I closed the door.
"Out," I said simply.
"I waited forever for you. The least you could do is tell me where you were," he said.
"I said I was out," I said. I took off my shoes and walked past him. I didn't get far before he pulled me back.
"Don't be a bitch," he said with a growl.
"Don't be an ass," I said back.
"I just want to know where you were," he said squeezing my are tighter.
"I said I was out."
"That isn't an answer."
"It's good enough for me," my mom said from the door way.
"Sorry?" Lucas said letting go of my arm and pulling me into his side with an innocent smile. My mom looked at me and I looked at her like we always did when my friends were over. She sighed.
"I was just meaning if she says she was out she was out. Don't pry. She could have been out getting you something for all you know. Leave her be," she said coming over to me and pulling me out of his grip and into one of her own. I smiled and hugged her back.
"Hey where were you?" the others asked as they peaked in.
"Out," I said simply and they nodded and went back to what they were doing. My mom let me go and we went into the room with everyone else. Lucas grabbed my hand but I pulled away and continued to walk with my mom. It doesn't feel right.
