You take the lighter and put it to your wrist.
You hiss in pain. "This hurts more than the damn blade."
You take it and examine your burned wrist. It was scorched and hurt like hell.
You look out your bedroom window and stare into your neighbor's, Hayes Grier, bedroom.
He's on the computer, probably editing a video he made yesterday. You wish you were pretty enough to at least have a chance with him.
"I have to stop this. Just for you Hayes. Talk to me, even if it's the tiniest little sentence. I've liked you for a while now. Well, since we were 8, and now we're 15 (a year from now or so) and I really would like to talk to you more than we do already," you say quietly to yourself.
You jump at the knock on your big window. You peek at the culprit.
Hayes stands near your window and knocks again. You walk to your window.
"What's up?"
"I just wanted to ask you a question. You look anxious to tell me something."
You and Hayes were best friends, but in all honesty you haven't really talked to each other much after high school started, but once in a while you had little heart to hearts.
"Um, Hayes, I really wanted to tell you this since we were 8, but I was a chicken and never had the guts to say it because I thought it was gonna make everything awkward. Look, I like you a lot. And it's not really even a crush anymore. It's something more than that. You're out of my league, and I know you don't think I'm pretty or whatever, but you mean the world to me and I can't ever thank you for talking to me tonight."
"You see, I have been self harming since the first week of sophomore year. Every word you passed to me in a day made me harm for a lesser amount of time. You're my hero and I need your help right now, or else I don't know how worse my life will be."
Hayes stared at you for about a minute. He then raised his hand and stroked your cheek.
"I love everything about you. I see you self harm and I was gonna ask you to stop now. It terrible watching a gorgeous girl like you do that to herself. Just remember you're beautiful and I love you. Stop harming yourself this instant, and I'll be your boyfriend."
You smile and say,"I will."
He stares straight into the the center of your eyes and says, "y/n, will you be my girlfriend?"
You look up and say softly, "Yes."
