Sophia

"Sit wherever you like. I'll be back with a first-aid kit and some food."

When Lucas disappeared from my view, I took the opportunity to look around the mansion.

The ceilings were high and the interior design was made of stones and wood. The furniture played around earthy colors, providing a comfy feel. The whole place was engulfed in AC.

But that's where the warmth and prosperity ended.

I swept my brown eyes around the living room.

This alone conveyed a hollow aura.

My memories flooded my mind like a roll of film being played:

I recalled all those times Lucas wore a contagious smile on his face. I rehashed every moment where he laughed, making everyone else join in, too. I thought about all those days, the weeks, the months when he did nothing but make people happy. Most of all, me.

It was all a facade.

Behind the merry mask was a somber teenager with a broken soul and incomplete heart. If I had to give one word to describe the mansion, I would choose 'Melancholic.'

A moment later Lucas returned carrying a white medical kit and a tray of chocolate cake.

My face lit up at the sight of a frosted slice of chocolate dessert. It was mouthwatering.

"Let me take care of your wound first, alright?"

I nodded my head and allowed him to untie the bandages and dab some medicine on my cut.

"Ouch ouch ouch," I complained while he rubbed the liquid on my blooded leg.

"Done."  The black-haired male taped a ball of cotton over my injury before wrapping a new strip of bandages around by mid-leg.

I leaned forward and grabbed the plate of chocolate cake, lifting the fork to spear a big chunk.

"Hey, Sophia?"

"Uh-huh?"

"Can I ask you for a favor?"

"Name it." After everything he's done for me, I had to repay him somehow.

"The thing is.. for the past few weeks, Stacy began to drop hints about my relationship with her."

I felt my heart plummet to the pit of my stomach, but I encouraged him to proceed.

"I think she wants me to ask her soon," he said.

"So what do you want me to do?" I stared at my chocolate cake.

"Just a few more tips on how I could be sweeter towards her. And if it's okay with you, can you help me organize a special date for tomorrow evening?"

Sunday night? I looked at him. "Why is it special?"

Lucas gave me a meaningful smile and answered: "I'm gonna ask her to be my girlfriend."

"Isn't five months too soon?" I heard myself ask him.

"I don't know." His brown eyes dimmed. "Stacy wasn't very subtle with her hints."

Do it for her, Sophia. You love your sister. "I'll help you."

"You will? Thank you, Sophia."

"She loves surprises," I informed him, ignoring the constriction of my heart.

"Like what?"

"I'm not talking about just stuffed animals and strawberries. She also likes unexpected messages. Tell her what you love about her. And when she takes you shopping, you need a dictionary to give her unique compliments. She worships shoes more than anything else. And she appreciates it when you remember quotes that she makes like 'Be A Pineapple. Stand tall, wear a crown, and be sweet inside.'"
