First day of the last year of high school. I walk along the deserted streets of my neighborhood, a few cars passing by every ten minutes, with my eyes scanning around for any sign of life at this time in the morning. The sun is hot as it hits my exposed skin and the sky clear from clouds, a baby blue that calms the nerves building in my stomach. For some reason I always get a little nervous when returning to school after summer break, questions popping in my head about the various changes the summer brings. I hope this year things will be better.

Dressed simply in denim shorts, a navy blue crop top with the word "tequila" in red letters, red vans, my hair made in two Dutch braids, a pair of silver hoops and lips red, I make my way towards the cream colored building in which I'll be spending the last year of my life trapped in this town surrounded by woods and sea. Headphones plugged securely in my ears I let the music embrace me as I lip sync occasionally till I reach my destination. It's mostly empty, just a few students here and there, others chatting and catching up and others lying on the grass under some trees. The school I attend isn't that bad, having a quite big parking lot, a couple of yards for soccer and outdoor activities as well as lunch, an indoor fully equipped gym with pool and a cleaning routine I haven't witnessed before. All in all it's quite a good school.

I enter through the now open gates and head over the spot my group of friends always occupy on the right side of the school, near the parking lot, and lie on the soft warm grass waiting for them to arrive. Having my sunglasses on I decide to just absorb all the positive energy the sun can transmit in order to still be in a good mood by the end of the day with no headache splitting my head in two.

A good ten minutes pass by till a shadow makes me open my eyes and a pair of dark brown eyes come in my line of vision. Hair now blonde from the excess exposure to the sun and skin a little tanned, I feel a smile creeping up. Good old John Allard.

"Hey man, sup?" I ask as I close my eyes again and remove my headphones.

"Oh you know, everything's fine. It's not like I spent a whole summer without seeing you." his deep voice and English accent reminding me of home. I feel him lay down beside me and poke me in the cheek, making me smile and lift myself up on the elbows.

"I missed you too John. Did Lydia ride with you?" I ask as my eyes search for his brunette girlfriend. They are quite a nice couple, more average you'd say. They are both beautiful in their own way, without being the center of attention, thus making it a lot more easier being friends with them.

"No, she's coming with the twins. Something about getting ready together for the first day back."

As I try to keep the slight feeling of hurt from being left out to myself, my attention is caught from the arrival of two brunette girls riding their bikes towards us. Recognizing them immediately, I get up after excusing myself and make a sprint to greet my closest friends. Parking their bikes just in time, we become one big ball of bodies squealing and laughing as soon as I embrace them.

Breaking apart I take a good look at them. Sophia, on my left, has her long curly dark brown hair slightly straightened making it look wavy and her green hazel eyes defined perfectly with black eyeliner. She wears a black body top accompanied with a long silver necklace, a red plaid skirt and black brogues. Chloe on the other hand wears a cream colored crochet crop top with light blue denim shorts and sandals, while her dark brown eyes are defined with a fine line of eyeliner and lips tinted slightly with red lipstick. They simply look great.
