انّما الأعمال بالنّيّات، و انّما لِامرئٍ ما نوى
Surely every act is judged according to its intention, and surely every person is what he intends.

The example of person who performs itikaaf is like one who goes to a certain place for something and does not return till it is granted. When someone comes to our door and refuses to leave until he is granted his request, even the hardest of hearts will give in and grant it to him. How much more mercuful is Allah, whi gives even without asking.

In i'tikaf one whose to Allahs house and the Most Kind Host always honours a guest who visits him.

Allah says in a hadithe qudsi, ( to the effect ) whoever draws near to me a handspan,i draw near to him 2 handspans, and whoever comes toward me walking, I run towards him.

Reward for i'tikaf
- 3 trenches are dug between you and jahannum/hell and the size of each trench is equal to the distance between the earth and sky.

Acts of worship for the last ten days of ramadhan regardless of whether you are in i'tikaaf or not. Carry out these acts with the intention of making them a part of us even after ramadhan. Allah ta' ala grant us istiqamat/ steadfastness

*Read chapter on death in fazaile sadqat
No tears are a sign of a hard heart
A hard heart is the effect of excessive sinning
Excessive sinning is due to not being mindful of death
One is not mindful of death because of high hopes for the future.

70, 000 la ilaha illAllah
- saves one from the fire of jahannum/hell

Sheikh Abu Yazeed Qurtubi رحمة الله عليه writes: On learning that one who recites لَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا ٱلله seventy thousand times (70 000) becomes safe from the fire of Jahannam, I completed this number once for my wife and then several times for my own self as a provision for the hereafter.

There used to live near us a young man who was known to be blessed with the power of Kashf (divine manifestation of unseen thing), even in respect of Jannah and Jahannam, but I hesitated to believe it.

Once when this young man was dining with us, he uttered a cry of agony, his breathing became difficult and he exclaimed, “I see my mother burning in Jahannam.”

When I saw him so perturbed, I thought of bestowing one of my complete 70 000 recitations of the kalimah in favour of his mother, so that the truth of what the young man said could be tested. I quietly did so in my heart, without telling anybody else about it. But as soon a I did this, the young man felt relieved and said, “O uncle! My mother has been relieved of the punishment of Jahannam!”

This incident proved useful to me in two ways: Firstly, the blessing of reciting this kalimah 70 000 times have been proved by actual experience, and secondly it was established that the young man was truly blessed with the power of Kashf.

a reliable narration that states:

"The soul of one who sleeps with wudu makes sajdah (prostrates) at the 'Arsh of Allah"

Purify these bodies and Allah will purify you, for any slave who goes to sleep in a state of purity has an Angel that spends the night with him. Every time he turns over, [the Angel] says, 'O Allah! Forgive Your slave, for he went to bed in a state of purity.'
