Nyxs' Knight - Percy Jackson

The Cave

Percy collapsed onto the damp ground of the cave, exhausted both mentally and physically. The encounter with the Sirens had left him drained and feeling like an empty sack. Apparently, Nyx's portal had taken him to the cavern that she had first taken him to, except now there were bright lights illuminating it.

The stalactite riddled roof was at least twenty meters above him, with faint beams of light cascading through the cracks. It seemed like this was a main chamber, as there were small tunnels leading off into various sizes of antechambers. A small stream trickled down into an moss filled pond, proving to be the incessant dripping noise that had bothered Percy merely hours before.

Percy's eyes drooped as exhaustion settled in again - preventing the Sirens song from messing with his mind again had drained him, and also left him a bit shaken. All he could think about was his Siren induced vision and the things he saw. How Zoë, Silena, Beckendorf and Bianca had seemed so real, so lifelike. Most of all, he remembered that voice in his head.

This isn't right.

They're dead.

He knew that, no matter what, that haunting vision would stay with him forever.

Suddenly, a cold, beckoning voice rang out through the cavern, coming from the direction of one of the antechambers.

"Come Perseus."

Knowing that it was Nyx summoning him, Percy stood wearily and rubbed sleep from his tired eyes before shuffling down toward that direction. He passed through the mossy entrance and into a sleek marble hallway. The walls and floor here seemed more glossier than the main chamber, like someone had come through with a glass blower and coated the rock with shiny black glass. There were dim torches suspended in metal brackets along the walls, creating flickering shadows that seemed to be alive, adding to the eerie feeling the corridor created.

The hallway led into a small cave the size of a master bedroom with a high roof, the floor and walls made of the same glossy substance. A large glass chandelier was hanging from the roof, with the bright light from its hundreds of candles flickering around the room. In the corner was a plush dark blue single bed, along with two black bedside tables. A wooden bench filled with every blue food imaginable lined the other wall, accompanied by a small grey fridge and stove. At the back was a small bathroom with a black toilet seat and vanity. To Percy it seemed like a goth freaks penthouse, with all the blackness and creepiness - minus the blue food of course.

He felt a familiar presence enter the room, and turned to see Nyx standing - or floating, as her feet weren't touching the ground - in the corridor.

"I see you have discovered your dwelling for the next twenty four hours." She said coolly, her cloaked figure statue - like.

"What do you mean?" Percy asked, his curiosity piqued.

"You will stay here and recuperate for the next day, and prepare yourself mentally and physically for your third and final trial. As you know, if you succeed you will become my 'knight', yet if you do not, you will die. I will discuss your third third trial tomorrow, once you have showered, eaten and slept." She said as she floated back down the hallway.

"Wait! How did you know I like blue food?" Percy shouted after her.

She turned slightly toward him. "I have been watching you for longer than you believe" She said mysteriously before disappearing into the shadows.

That made Percy pause, and feel a little creeped out, but he was to exhausted to dwell on it. He decided to check out his cool little room, discovering that there were numerous cupboards filled with clothes and shoes. He showered and dressed in a pair of track pants and t-shirt, before climbing under the covers if the warm bed, and falling into a deep, deep sleep.
