It was a quiet night in Metropolis, and that was just how Superman liked it. Due to his superhearing he was able to catch everything that goes on throughout his city and nothing was brought up to worry him. The only things he had to prevent were armed robberies, joy riders, and the occasional muggings, and even those had died down.
Even some of the attacks from his villains had died down. That usually means that they were planning something big, but the majority of them were already locked up, so he'll take as much of the quiet as he can.
As he flew through the city he noticed something on top of an old apartment building. He flew down and saw that it was friend Batman looking at what appeared to be some sort of device.
"Batman." Superman greeted as he flew down next to him. "What's going on."
"You remember those three scientist back at the Wayne Enterprise Metropolis Sub-Station?" Batman said without looking up from his equipment. He wasn't surprised to run into Superman, since they seem to alway bump into each whenever they visit each other's city.
"The ones who set up the bomb and destroyed the station." Superman nodded.
"I've just finished investing one of those scientists rooms." Batman said.
"And what did you find?" Superman asked.
"At first nothing, but when I looked in the fridge I noticed some of their food was a little spoiled. Meaning that they have not been home for awhile." Batman answered.
"That does seem a little strange." Superman said.
Batman nodded. "Normally make this priority number one, but that's difficult when you're working two cases at once."
"What's the second case?" Superman asked.
"Several weeks ago, one of the inmates at Arkham Asylum escaped, and I have not been able to locate her." Batman said. He pulled out a different device and it showed a picture of a Killer Frost. "Her name is Louise Lincoln, but everyone calls her Killer Frost."
"I heard of her, she's a metahuman with the ability to manipulate cold and ice."
"When she was a young girl she had an abusive family that would torment her. It wasn't until they pushed her too far that she was able to unlock her powers. Since then she used her powers to try and rob banks and commit crime all so she can survive. However, she recently escaped and so far I have not been able to locate her."
"That's strange, because something similar happened to me." Superman said. Batman raised an eyebrow and wanted him to continue. "Also weeks ago one of my metahuman criminals, a woman named Volcana, escaped from her island prison. I went there to deliver the usual supplies, but she was gone without a trace, and I've been unable to locate her."
Batman put a hand on his chin and looked down in thought. "That is rather peculiar. Two criminals have escaped almost at the exact same time, but both have gone off the radar."
"Do you think it's connected?" Superman asked.
"Hard to say, just keep your eyes and ears out." Batman said.
"You as well. Do you still have that signal watch I gave you?" Superman asked.
Batman didn't verbally answered, but still showed him the signal watch. He then brought out his grappling hook and fired it in the sky, attaching it to the bat jet and was sent straight up to it. He then went on to the controls and took off.
Superman watched him leave and couldn't help but have a sense of worry. If criminals were disappearing without a trace, then where did they go and what were they planning.
