I'm There For You - Fitz's POV

I covered my face with my hands.

Could I not be a failure for at least one DAY?!

I ran my hands through my hair and growled. People were inside the Alluveterre residence, still chatting. But here I was, sitting on the steps before the house. I felt so useless. I stood up and peeked inside of the windows. I saw Sophie talking to Tam, Biana looking at... something, Dex building something really complicated and showing it to Biana, and Keefe and Linh were talking. Keefe was smirking and Linh was laughing. I felt myself soften up a little bit.

I walked inside after fixing my hair. It was super spiky after me messing it up billions of times. But who could blame me? A really, really great friend of mine nearly...

A really great friend became sad.

I couldn't even say it. Not even think of it, even! I closed my eyes and sighed. I would watch over her in every situation. She would be safe. From everything after her. I would protect her. No matter what.

I smiled at Sophie, who flushed red and waved back. Linh brightened when she saw me and I dipped my head in acknowledgment. Keefe turned to me and headed towards me. I grinned.

"Hey, little Fitzy-poo. Haven't seen you in so long." he said with a small, sad smile. I smiled back. "That doesn't have to happen anymore, though. We're sticking together no matter what." I said. Keefe smirked. I grinned.

Then his smirk disappeared and was replaced with exhaustion. Which took me by surprise. "Fitz, to be honest, I don't know what to do about everything happening now." he said. I nodded. "Yeah. Everything's so... overwhelming, all of a sudden." I replied. He nodded. "I just really feel like it's my fault." he said suddenly. I froze.

"Don't think that, Keefe. How would it be your fault?!" I asked sternly. Guilt and sadness were the worst things to be inside of an elf's mind. That could result in a broken mind. It was simply miraculous that Linh's mind was okay.

Keefe shook his head. "I'm an Empath, Fitz. I was supposed to feel what she was going through. But I didn't." he said. I sighed. "Keefe, it's happened already. What's done is done."

"Yeah. Yeah, you're right, man."

I flashed a smile at him and he dramatically covered his eyes. "I'm blinded, BLINDED!" he said. I laughed and he snickered. "Alright, Keefester, wanna play Base Quest later?" I asked. "You know, just  to get all the... sad vibes away?"

"Of  course, man. Who wouldn't?"

I laughed and he clapped my back. "Looking forward to it, man." I watched as he walked away. I sighed and ran a  hand through my hair. Honestly, I felt tired. I just wanted to protect my friends. Was that too much to ask?!

I rubbed my eyes.

The only thing to do was find out, right?
