Worried

"Lucy, stop frowning. Enjoy the sunshine. We're in Narnia. Kings and Queens again. What's wrong?" Peter peered over at her. Ever since they had left Susan, Peter had sort of taken over the role of protective older sibling. She would never have admitted this to Susan, even she missed the nagging that used to end up helping her.

"Nothing's wrong. I'm fine. Really." Lucy lied.

Peter, of course, didn't believe her. " Lu, what are you thinking about? Do you want to go inside for luncheon? A picnic isn't always good, there are bugs. Cair Paravel doesn't have any. Yes, you're probably right. Let's go inside."

Edmund rolled his eyes. He knew just as well as Lucy did that Peter knew exactly what was wrong with Lucy. He just wouldn't admit it.

"Peter, it's fine. We'll stay outside. Quit worrying." Edmund told him.

Peter nodded and they went back to eating. The only one who was with them right now was Caspian, but he wouldn't do much except pace and worry and move his eyes suspiciously at every sound. They had chosen to go back and keep ruling at Cair Paravel. It was still in True Narnia, only there were dangers as well as good things and enemies as well as friends. And there was work to do, just like in the Old times. Only that Caspian was with them, which provided a good deal of help with foreigners and Royal Work. Apart from Mr.Tumnus, Eustace and Jill and all the others had gone east, which they knew a lot more of and could rule over more easily. It seemed that Eustace was a great king, surprisingly. Almost as good as Peter. Which was saying something. And Jill would always come over to visit them and have a cup of tea. Lucy couldn't help thinking that Susan and her would make great friends.

"She might even be really happy, so there's no reason to worry." Edmund suddenly said, breaking the awkward silence.

Caspian ignored him and commenced to beating his head on a wooden stick.

"Anything could have happened. She might have been frozen by a dwarf of the White Witch, or stomped on by a giant, or-"

"Caspian, the place she's at doesn't even have those things. She'll be fine." Peter told him.

Lucy got up and sat next to him. "I don't know... London isn't exactly safe either. There's all that movement and commotion. "

Edmund nodded. "Yes, I see both sides of the argument. But I think that it's most likely that she's happy, but not safe. Remember all the parties she would go to? She's probably dancing and giggling and flirting her heart out just about now. Maybe she's so caught up putting on her lipstick that she doesn't even remember us at all. And London is nowhere near as dangerous as Narnia, but that doesn't mean she's safe either. "

Lucy looked horrified. "Edmund! How can you say such a thing? Of course she remembers us! We're her siblings. Maybe she still thinks Narnia is a fantasy, but she'll at least remember her brothers and her favorite sister!"

At this, Caspian looked ready to cry. "Of course, she'll remember her siblings, but no one else." He muttered to himself.

Lucy seemed to realize what she had just said. She pulled Caspian in to a hug.

"Oh, Caspian! I didn't mean it that way! Of course she remembers you, how could she not? She even said for you to call her, remember that?"

Caspian hung his head.

"Did she- did she get any news of Liliandi? Because if she did, then I won't ever be able to forgive myself. Ever. You know, I never even loved Liliandi. But I got tired. Tired of waiting. I needed to have a son to rule after me, and that son needed a mother. But I never forgot Susan. Not once. And when Liliandi died, I thought Susan would have heard and come back. But she didn't. What was I supposed to do?"

Lucy shook her head. "No, Susan never got that news about Liliandi's death."

They sat in silence. Lucy noticed Peter's jaw was clenched. She remembered his temper, and how when he first met Caspian they got in to a fight. They were good friends now, but Lucy couldn't help but wonder.

"I think we finally found why Susan won't come back to us." Peter said through clenched teeth.

"What do you mean?" Asked Caspian.

"Oh, don't pretend you don't know. My sister was in love with you, truly in love with you. You weren't just another admirer to her. She really loved you. And then you went ahead and broke her heart, and now she's heartbroken. So now we don't have our sister, and we're suffering thinking about how she's doing in a big city all by herself with no close family with her. Our family isn't the same. We don't have anyone to soothe our feelings or shoot something that's about to attack us. Now we lack an important puzzle piece, AND IT'S ALL YOUR FAULT!"Peter exploded, pointing an accusatory finger at Caspian.

"Woah, High King, take it easy. Caspian has a point. Let's resolve this diplomatically. We just need to look at both points. Now, Peter thinks-" Edmund was cut off by Caspian.

" It's not my fault the heartbreaker finally got a taste of her own medicine."

Lucy stopped trying to prove Ed's point and turned to Caspian, her eyes betrayed and hurt.

"Caspian! What's wrong with you? Don't say those things about her, you know she was too old to go back to Narnia! I can't believe you." She turned her back to him and fled to Peter's side. Only Edmund seemed to be trying to see both sides of the situation, but even he looked angry.

"Everyone, you are all arguing pointlessly. Do you think our fighting will bring back Susan? No. We need a plan. No matter what the reason for her not coming back to Narnia, we need to find some way to have her come back."

"Edmund's right." Lucy piped up.

"Well then." Peter said, smiling at Lucy yet avoiding eye contact with Caspian. "I suppose we should get started. I have a few strategies, but the two most important things are to get Aslan to help us and to find a few portals that connect us to England. If you here any news about a portal or Aslan then track it down and tell me immediately."

Peter had already switched in to battle mode and began making plans and marking down what they had to do, instantly forgetting their previous little mishap. He really was a true High King and had excellent leadership qualities, so no one questioned him when he began serving out orders. Lucy beamed proudly at him, watching as he furrowed his eyebrows in concentration and fiddled with his sword as he thought of more ideas. His mind was one of a warrior and set for battle-strategy and war. She couldn't believe how well he and Edmund got along in Narnia- they made quite a team.

She missed, however, having an older sister that provided the company of a girl whom she could ask for sisterly advice and have chats about her crushes. Mr.Tumnus was a great friend, but Lucy couldn't very well ask him for help to pick out a dress or where to find a tampon.

"Well," Peter said after a while. "I think luncheon is about over, and we all have royal matters to attend to. Let's continue this later.

And with that, all four went their separate ways, Susan on each and every one of their minds.
