"I always wonder why birds choose to stay in the same place when they can fly anywhere on earth, then I ask myself the same question." -Unknown

I woke up the next morning to the feeling of needing the bathroom. Don't you just hate it when that happens? you're in the most humanly comfortable position, your bed is just the perfect temperature, your sheets are sitting just in the right way and then some natural bodily need ruins it all. I breathe out a huff and sit up in my bed. I look around my bedroom whilst rubbing my eyes trying to desipher what time it is by how much light is in my bedroom knowing that it would be easier to just turn my head about ninety degrees to the right and read the time of my nightstand. My best guess is that it is ten meaning that I slept for twelve hours I look at my clock to confirm it, ten thirty the four green digits read. Damn, I've basically wasted my whole morning.
Swinging my legs out of bed I stand up and stretch cracking my back in the process, I let out a little ahhh. Walking into the bathroom I acknowledge that my mom is probably already awake, I know this because A) she doesn't believe in wasting her day in bed and B) I could hear the television downstairs. I flush the toilet and wash my hands then decide to go down and say hello. As I walk down the stairs I hear my mom on the phone, probably on to some colleague looking for more hours to work. I stop in the doorway of the living room and smile at my mom and she holds up one finger as if to say "I'll only be a minute"
While waiting on my mom to finish her call I feel something thumping of the door and look down to see Crumbie staring excitedly up at me, I smile.
"Hello Crumbie!" I whisper loudly in that stupid baby voice we all know we talk to our dogs in
She licks me in response. I rub her chocolate brown ears and back and she flips over so I can rub her belly.
"Sorry about that," my mom says staring at her phone
"Don't worry," I smile back "Who was it anyways?"
"Oh, just me trying to get some overtime." she says dismissively
I just nod.
"So did you sleep well honey?" My mom says getting up from the sofa
"Definitely, the best on in a long time." I grin "I was sad to get up."
My mother frowns then laughs "Well you can't waste your life in bed can you?"
I shake my head "Do you want a coffee? I'm going to make one for myself."
"Yes please, if you don't mind. Would you like me to make you some breakfast?"
"Nah it's alright, I'm not that hungry for once," I reply
My mom raises her eyebrows just as I get up from stroking Crumbie and walk into the kitchen. I grab the kettle and fill it up with water then flick it on. I look out the window into the back yard and see a little bird jumping about the garden looking for food. Stuffing my hand into the bread bin and pulling out a slice of bread, I open the back door and walk out into the garden. Ripping of a peice of bread I throw it down to the little bird and watch it carefully walk over and snatch it up. I can't help but smile. I rip up the rest of the bread and leave it there for the bird to eat then go back inside to find my mom standing leaning against the counter with a smile on her face.
"You always have been good with animals Asia, ever since you were the smallest little thing." my mom said her mouth curving up at the sides.
