Once we had got back to the station, I had a weird realisation that this man I’ve spend the last 2 days with and in fact shared a bed with only came into my life because of some stupid ass train. I giggled to myself as we walked down the platform and Ben looked up with a questioning expression.
“And what‘s making you split your sides, eh?” he carried on looking at me as we walked and I just smiled at him in return thinking through what to say.
“Nothing much, I just think it’s kinda weird that we only really met ‘cause that train fucked up… and it just feels like I‘ve known you for ages rather than a day or two.” I laughed nervously as I finished my sentence, not being entirely sure what Ben would think of it, or say back to me. He shocked me though, pleasantly but still it was a shock.
“Yeah I was thinking that last night actually…‘here I am, sharing a bed with a girl I barely know…’ - ” I interrupted him before he could say anything to embarrass me.
“HEY! I was being nice! After all you did give me a place to stay for the night, it would hardly have been fair for me to be okay with you sleeping on the sofa.” he raised his eyebrows at me as if to say he wasn’t finished, so I kept quiet.
“Anyway as I was saying. ‘Here I am, sharing a bed with a girl I barely know, and she trusts me not to be an asshole.’ I was actually rather flattered that you trusted me enough for that. Plus I get what you mean about it feels like we‘ve known each other for years, haha. it’s nice though, having someone to mess around with while I‘m stuck in this place. I‘d be bored fucking brainless if it weren‘t for you and you’re sarcastic little comments…” he winked and offered me a cigarette as he got the packet out of his back pocket. I took one and got my clear, red lighter out of my pocket. I lit up my cigarette then handed Ben the lighter so he didn’t have to ask me.
“Well, thanks I guess…” I took a toke before finishing my sentence.
“For this, and for saying I make pretty good company. And for giving me a place to stay… I‘d really be fucked if you weren’t around! And by the way, you can keep that lighter if you want. You need it more than I do…” I chuckled and took another toke as we headed toward the end of the platform toward the small café, opposite to the bar we had visited when we met the first time.
“Thanks babe, I honestly don’t know what the fuck happened to my lighter… think James ‘Borrowed’ it. And it‘s no problem, about me letting you stay at the apartment. It was good to have some company, and I‘m glad we get on pretty well really. Would‘ve sucked otherwise!” we both laughed as we reached the door to the café and Ben let me walk in first. We took a table near the window so we could definitely see when the train got here. Even though we still had nearly an hour and a half until the train arrives.
Ben picked up the menu and scanned it quickly before quickly deciding what he wanted. He handed me the menu and I looked at it carefully trying to find something I liked. As I was searching through the page of numerous dishes and things my train of thought was broken away by Ben speaking.
“Right, lunch is on me. My thank you for being good company and for making sure I didn‘t make a mess of myself at any point. So don’t worry about prices ‘cause I don’t care and this place doesn‘t charge much anyway.” He looked at me as I read the menua dn smiled when I made eye contact with him. I smiled a thank you back and carried on searching, trying to find something that sounded particularly appetising. I decided to settle for just a burger and chips. Nothing else really took my fancy and I hadn’t had anything like that for a while so why the hell not. A waitress approached out table as I put the menu down and greeted us.
She was medium height and had dirty blonde hair with small tunnels in her ears, heavy eye makeup and the top of a tattoo she had on her chest showing due to her top couple of buttons being undone on her white shirt.
