Cheer up, misery

"Here y'are doll, cheer up," Ben muttered, placing my drink down infront of me. I was sitting slumped over in the chair, arms crossed on the table, head resting face-down on my arms. I could feel the table move and wobble as Ben leant on it a little as he put his drink down and sat down in the chair opposite me.

"c'mon babe, what's up? You can't say nothing is either. If you do you're one hell of a bullshitter..."

I felt him put a hand on my arm, probably in hope that I'd get my head off the table, and tell him what's wrong. I don't wanna annoy or upset him, so I think I probably should acknowledge his words, and thank him for the fresh beer he's bought me. Don't wanna seem ungrateful...

"Thanks for this Ben, think I need it to be honest with you." I smiled weakly as I sat up straight in the cold wooden chair to face him. He gave me a pleading smile to continue, before replying.

"No problem, just thought you need a little cheering up." he shrugged and gave another concerned but pleading look.

"I don't really know what's wrong. I mean, I don't understand why its upset me really, or made me worried. Y'know I said about my mum texting me the other night, earlier..?" I looked down and took a SIP of beer, placing it back on the table and running my fingers around the cold condensation covered surface, and picking at the label. I heard Ben reply as I looked up with just my eyes to gauge his reaction.

"Umm, yeah... What about it? Did she say what she wanted to talk about?" he returned, giving me a subtly scrutinising expression.

"Well, no. But it's worrying me 'cause I know if it wasn't serious, in one way or another. She wouldn't have said anything about it now. She'd have waited untill I got home or something, or just told me what it was. Rather than being all cryptic and 'we need to talk when you get home' about it. It's just kinda put me in edge I s'pose..." trailing off my sentence I looked up at Ben to see how he reacted and to try to see whether he thinks I'm being over dramatic about it. He had a slightly confused face, his brows slightly furrowed, and glancing around the table trying to figure something out. Eventually he looked up at me and smiled kind of oddly, raising his eyebrows. As if to say 'i don't really understand yet, but I'll try to'

"Well it can't be THAT serious or she wouldn't have the time to text you about it. If you wanna talk about it that's fine, I'm a good listener, but I'm kinda shit at giving advice..." he laughed nervously, taking a gulp of his beer and running his fingers through his already scruffy hair. It made me smile though, a giggle escaped and he looked up at me his eyes seeming to brighten up a bit at the sound of my laughter.

"It's fine, it'll probably be nothing that serious - like you said. What's the time anyways? We've been here a while now,"
