Warming Up To Troye

The next day at school, Tyler and Jack were absent. The gossiping mouths were moving again, false words flitting around the hallways and into the classrooms. But now, they had something new to tell tales about.

At lunch, I found myself once again precariously traipsing across the cafeteria, this time lacking the company of Tanya and Jim. No, I was walking with Troye Sivan, one of the most popular boys in school. My prayers that this would go unnoticed were definitely not answered, as curious eyes sought after us, trailing on our backs.

The lunchroom was near silent, and I could feel jealous and confused stares boring holes into my side as we anxiously hastened our pace towards the table where my newfound friends sat. As soon as we took a seat the usual chatter started up again, although I could still feel anxiety pulsating throughout my entire body as my heartbeat began the arduous process of slowing down.

“Hey guys...” I started off awkwardly. “This is Troye. He’s sitting with us today. Is that okay?” I introduced, as if they didn’t already know who he was and as if they weren’t staring at him, slightly awestruck.

Tanya started out of it first. “Yeah, yeah of course it’s fine! Anyone’s welcome.” The silence became slightly awkward, and just as I was opening my mouth to break it, somebody else did it for me, not someone who anyone expected to.

“Troye, what are you doing back here? I mean I know that, like, because Jack isn’t here you are like upset and stuff but I don’t even know why you would think about sitting back here with these losers.” (A/N That sentence was literally painful to write oh God I hate it when people talk like that) Roxie’s glare pierced through everyone at our table, before she quickly went back to making innocent doe eyes at Troye.

Troye raised his eyebrows. “Well, this loser,” he quoted in a mocking tone, gesturing to me, “happens to be my friend. She invited me to sit with her and her loser friends, and so I am.”

Jim bit his lip, as if he was trying to hide his laughter, and Alfie was looking at the ground, but I could see his cheeks raised as he tried to hold back an expression.

Roxie wrinkled her nose in disgust, before her eyes zeroed in on me. “Troye, they are, like, so gross. Come sit with us.” Her hand grazed up and down his bicep, and his eyes widened.

He cleared his throat awkwardly. “Um, no thanks, Roxie. I appreciate the offer though.” The tension had clearly risen, as Roxie snapped her hand off his arm as if he had stung her.

“Ugh. I’m, like, so telling Jack. BTW, if you hang out with these losers, you’re going to be a loser too. I mean, you don’t want that, do you?”

“I really don’t mind, actually.” Troye was clearly getting annoyed now, as she continually insulted all of us.

“Hey, Roxie, take the hint honey.” I blurted into the conversation, sudden confidence taking over. “Troye. Doesn’t. Want. To. Sit. With. You.” I exaggerated the words, making my eyes widen as a condescending, sugar sweet tone inhabited my voice, as if I were talking to a child.

She gasped, stalking off.

“Yeah, that’s right. Buh-bye.” I waved her off, before turning back to face the table. As soon as she left, the entire table burst into laughter, shaking with the force of it. Troye surveyed us all awkwardly, his eyes darting from face to face, clearly baffled.

“Troye, that was amazing!” Jim stuttered out in between snickers, and a shy smile settled on Troye’s face. We all managed to calm down, still giggling at Roxie’s reaction.

Tanya, Alfie, Joe, and Connor each had their moments of commenting on the conversation, still laughing. We spent the rest of the lunch period laughing together, swapping topics. Troye was clearly much more comfortable now that he had stood up for us, and the group really warmed up to him during that time period.

“No way!” Tyler’s amiable laughter curled out of the phone speakers, as I talked to him later that night. “Troye Sivan? I don’t even know what to say.”

“You should have seen it, Ty. He and Connor got along really well, and everyone else likes him too. He’s nothing like Jack. Oh, and speaking of, was the suspension worth punching him in the face?” I asked, a warm smile on my face.

“Oh, absolutely worth it! The little jerk deserved it. I’ll be back on Monday, don’t fret.” He stated proudly.

I laughed, rolling my eyes. Typical Tyler.

“Alright, babe, see you Monday. Don’t miss me too much tomorrow!” He laughed, disconnecting the call before I could reply.

I smiled, and laid down in bed, internally rifling through everything I had observed about Troye. I knew he had a lot of siblings, because his sister Sage was very popular, although a sophomore, and everyone knew who she was. He was an exemplary singer, from what feedback I had heard by teachers and students who had seen the choir concerts, and I was fairly certain that he was a good student as well. He was supposedly straight, but that provided no explanation as to why I had seen him checking out the varsity jocks several times before snapping his eyes back to attention.

A random thought wandered through my mind as I started drifting to sleep.

You know, Tyler and Troye would make a cute couple.

Heyyy y'all! :) Happy Monday!

This chapter was actually soo fun to write although it took me a while to figure out because I am very very bad at throwing shade/making up comebacks, as I learned when writing this, and so sorry if it's crappy I mean I tried.

Also my reason for the delay in updating this chapter is because I had it halfway written and then I came across 'Troye: 1, Tyler: 0' which is this AMAZING fanfic that basically has my feels exploding everywhere and I spent a very long time reading it over and over and OVER again because it's so good and I really do think you should go over there and give it some love. It's by booksquirm314 and she's actually like really fantastical and she was one of the first people to vote and comment here which absolutely means the world to me. (I dedicated the chappie to her so you can find her easier plus she's amazeballs so why wouldn't I dedicate it to her anyway)

See you Thursday squish nuggets!
