Parental Speech

I yank open the door of my room and collapse on the bed. I just sit there, thinking about how much I despise the Capitol, despise Wilson Covert, despise Julie Hicks, and everything else I could ever despise.

There's heavy banging on my door. I'm not going to bother myself to open it.

"ELSIE! ELSIE OPEN THE DOOR!" Julie yells.

"No." I say calmly.

"ELSIE PEARCE I SWEAR I WILL RUIN YOUR LIFE AS WELL AS TAKE IT FROM YOU IF YOU DO NOT OPEN THIS DOOR RIGHT NOW!"

I throw the door open and lay back on the bed. "What do you want, Julie?"

"I told you to call me Mrs. Julie!"

"Fine, Julie. Now what do you want?"

"I said, call me-"

"SHUT UP AND GET ON WITH IT! WHAT do you WANT?"

Julie actually looks a bit disgruntled. She clears her throat and straightens her blouse as if to try and look professional. "What you did was very rude. I expected more from a young lady as yourself. I want you to apologize to Wilson."

Oh great. A parental speech. That's the last thing I need. "Fine. But get out of my room. And if you make anymore threats, I'll report you to the Capitol where everyone can watch you be torn limb by limb."

"Oh please. What have I done to be turned into the Capitol?"

"Nothing. But I can make it look like you did something. I can trick Wilson and that old man you call our mentor to back me up. I might could get some 'evidence' from the other District tributes if you'd like."

"Fine, I'll leave! But you'll apologize."

"Of course."

I practically push her out of my room. Right when the door is just cracked a tiny bit before closing, I yell after her, "Yeah, I'm not apologizing. I'm not a nice young lady. I'm Elsie Pearce."
