Castiel's POV
Cas walked over to Gabriel, still smiling about what Dean had told him."Took you long enough." Gabriel complained. He pushed himself off the tree, crossing his arms. He was obviously still mad about Cas throwing his lollipop on the ground. Cas rolled his eyes. While they were walking home he was thinking about Dean. He said I was important to him. Me! Cas was grinning at the thought of Dean finding him important. Unfortunately, Gabe noticed.
"Wow, you really are head over heals for this dude aren't you?" Cas blushed.
"So what if I like him? He's probably not even gay so it doesn't matter." Cas said in a defeated tone. Cas had tried to hide that he was gay for a long time, but now that Dean is his new friend- not to mention he lives right next door- it is going to be very difficult to hide his emotions towards Dean from his family.
"Hey, what was all that talk about that kid in your class? The one you said had cute long hair?" Cas questioned. Gabe's face visibly lit up.
"His name is Sam. He's really tall too. He has hazel-green eyes that light up when he smiles." Gabe explained dreamily. Cas started smiling at him.
"Gabe, do you have a crush on him?" Gabe's eyes widened and a blush rose on his cheeks.
"What?! No way! Gabriel Novak is NOT gay." Gabe tried to push away the idea of liking another boy. Cas was going to tease him about his crush when he saw the confused and scared look on his face.
"Gabe, what's wrong?" Cas asked growing concerned.
"I- I can't be gay. Naomi would kill me."
Cas felt sorry for his brother. Naomi was like a mother to them since their real mom left and their dad is almost never home."Gabe, it's okay. You already know I'm gay and I promise I will not tell Naomi or anyone else. That's something you have to do when your ready." Gabriel started to calm down a bit. Silence fell between for a few minutes until Gabriel spoke up.
"Cassie, are you going to come out to Naomi and the rest of the family?" Gabe asked hesitantly. Castiel thought for a second. He obviously had to tell them at some point. He cant hide who he is forever. But he can't exactly come out and say "Hey everyone! So, I have a crush on the neighbor. Please don't disown me." No, he would have to tell them when they became a little more open-minded.
"I will when I'm ready Gabe, but I also have to wait until they are ready to comprehend such news. Our family is very religious Gabe, you know that. In their eyes being gay is a sin. I have to be prepared to face how they will react to it and I am certainly not ready right now." Gabe nodded his head and looked down, the realization of how hard this was going to be dawning on him. Cas took his hand and squeezed it reassuringly.
"It's going to be okay Gabe, I promise. If you ever want to talk about it I'll be here to listen, okay?" Gabe looked up at his older brother and smiled.
"Okay Cassie. Thanks." Gabriel replied. He then fished around in his pocket to pull out a purple lollipop, unwrapped it, and put it in his mouth. Cas rolled his eyes at Gabriel's bad eating habit and continued walking to their house where their overly religious family was.
Dean's POV
After Dean and Sam bought food for the week they set the grocery bags in the back seat of the Impala while Dean sat in the drivers side and Sam sat shotgun. Dean turned on the radio and Metallica started playing. Sam was about to turn it off when Dean swatted his hand away."Dean, seriously? Metallica?" Sam questioned.
"House rules Sammy. Driver picks the music, shotgun shuts his cake hole."
Dean retorted. Sam huffed and looked out the window. After a few minutes Sam looked over at Dean. Dean looked at him and saw that he was really nervous."What's up Sammy?" Dean asked. Sam opened his mouth to say something, but then closed it. Dean raised an eyebrow.
"Sam? What's going on?" Sam opened his mouth again, but closed it quickly. He obviously wanted go say something and it seemed to be important.
"Look, Sam, whatever you have to say just say it okay?" Sam seemed to be thinking about something, but then he took a deep breath and began speaking.
"Dean, I don't know how exactly to say this so I'm just going to say it." he started. Dean looked over at him again, waiting for him to continue. Sam took one more deep breath.
"Dean, I'm gay..." Sam said quietly. Now he was staring at Dean, waiting to see his reaction. Dean was a little shocked at first, but then he smiled at Sam.
"Sammy, I'm proud of you." Dean said still smiling. Sam's eyes grew wide.
"What? Really? Your not mad?" Sam asked. Dean looked at him with confusion.
"Of course I'm not mad at you Sammy. That took a lot of courage to come out." Sam smiled widely at Dean, making Dean smile more too.
"So, when did you know you were gay?" Dean asked. Sam started getting shy and a light blush was on his cheeks as he explained.
"Well, I first realized I liked guys when this one boy complimented me once in elementary and I blushed like crazy. From there I would notice certain things about guys that I never thought or cared about before, like the color of their eyes and what they were wearing. There is also this boy in my class and I think he is kinda cute. He is also very flirty." When Sam finished his blush had spread to his ears. Dean took a moment to think about what Sam had just told him.
"So you have a crush on a guy in your class?" Sam nodded slightly.
"Well, what's his name? I want to know more about him." Sam percked up.
"His name is Gabriel. He has golden-brown hair and a serious candy addiction." Dean furrowed his eyebrows. Gabriel. As in candy loving Gabriel? The Trickster Gabriel? My best friends younger brother Gabriel? Dean was pulled from his thoughts when Sam said his name.
"Dean, is there something wrong?"
"No, nothing's wrong Sammy. I was just thinking." Dean replied. Dean turned up the radio and focussed on driving. So, Sam has a crush on my best friends brother. Dean thought, What a small world we live in.
