I wake up and feel a pair of bright green eyes looking at me. Someone was stroking my hair too. I pull back to see who it is.

Chase.

"What are you doing?" I ask. "I could ask you the same thing. You fell asleep on my shoulder and if I do remember correctly I could hear you muttering my name while you slept," he said with a smirk, then adds, "I don't blame you. If I were you I'd be dreaming of me too."

"I see your sarcasm didn't leave when you did," I say to him and grab my headphones he must've taken off me, and put them back on blasting out his talking. I check the time and see there's still two hours left of the flight and decide to try sleeping again.

I slowly drift off and I'm woken up when Chase shakes me and says, "Listen I know I was an idiot, but please let me explain."

"If you're trying to get me back then I have two things to tell you. One. I can't hear you, I have the volume too loud. Two. You can't just win me back like this. I'm not one of those girls."

Then I go back to sleep. And this time I actually do have a dream.

I'm back home, in my bed. As I sit up I see somebody else in my room. Sitting at my desk, is Chase.

I jump up and run to him as he embraces me in a hug. We share a short, sweet kiss and he says, "Happy Birthday Mallory!" Then he pulls out a little box from behind his back.

"Chase! I told you not to get me anything! You being here is already a great enough gift. I can't believe you turned down a Maroon5 concert just so you could see me today."

"I'd do anything to see you," he says with a smile, "Especially the day an angel was brought to this Earth."

I wake up and remember what he said,

"I'd do anything to see you,"

I look over at him and wonder if that's why he's here right now. He sees me looking and he smiles. I can't help but smile back, so when he pulls me to his shoulder like I was before, I don't push away. However, it takes all of my strength not to wrap my arms around him, like I would've a week ago.

We stay in that position neither of us moving, and then I move my head to look up at him. There's a look in his eyes that I recognize. It's regret. That's when I can't stop myself from putting my arms around him, pulling us closer together. Everything seems so perfect, I forget we even broke up, and fall back asleep.

You're so cute," I said to him. "You're cuter," he argued. "No, you are," I said back. "No. You are. And it's completely obviously by the way you laugh, and how you always put others needs before yours and how you-"

I stopped him with a kiss. Neither of us decides to pull away until he remembers he still has my present in his hands and he tries setting it down, then I pull away.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to stop-" he starts to say. "No, it's ok. It was starting to get a little heated," I said, gesturing that he'd pushed me against the wall.

"Oh, yeah," he said setting it down finally. I could tell he felt awkward because neither of us said anything and he was acting very interested about the books on the shelf next to me.

"How about I open my present?" I said with a smile. "Sure," he replied back, also smiling. I grabbed his hand and the box and went over to my bed and sat in the middle, pulling Chase with me, causing him to sit down.

"On three, we both open it," I said, moving his hand to the box, so it was over mine.

At this gesture, he looks up at me and says, "I can't open it. It's your present." Then he checks his watch and says, "Shoot. I can't stay. Promise me you'll wait to open it after I leave." "What?" I ask, confused. He says, "I just, really, have to go. I'm sorry. I'll talk to you later or something." Then he checks his phone and leaves.

I watch his car drive away and then turn to the present laying on my bed. "What would make him leave so quickly?" I ask myself and then plop down on my bed.

"Well, I guess I can open you alone." I pull the ribbon off the top of the box and then open the lid. I lift it up so I can see inside easier. All that's inside is a piece of paper.

Maybe it's a poem?

I pull it out and open it to see only a few sentences.

Dear Mallory,

I'm sorry to say this, but I have to break up with you. You going to Florida without me is just too much for me and I quite frankly couldn't go three months without you by my side. I really do love you, and I don't want you to be upset. We can still be friends, right? Text me later.

Love, Chase

After reading his note, I ran to Zach's room. His girlfriend, Kayla, was over. They were laying on his bed watching a movie together. "Hey! Care to knock?!" he yelled at me. "He broke up with me, Zach!" I yelled at him, holding back the tears. Instantly, you could see the anger leave his face and sadness replaced it. "Oh," he got up and whispered something to Kayla, who got her stuff, gave me a small smile, and left.

"Come here Mals," he said patting his bed next to him. I walk over to him and start crying into his shoulder, as he gives me a hug. "What reason did he give?" he said sounding angry again. I showed him the note and saw the different expressions I had when I read it the first time.

"I'm so sorry Mals," he says giving me another hug.

I jump awake now and see Chase holding onto my shoulders, as if he just shook me to get me awake.

"What happened?" I ask him. "You were crying. I was afraid it was from me again so I woke you up." He lets go of my shoulders but his hands slid down to mine.

"I wanted to tell you this before but you wouldn't listen. I didn't dump you because I didn't love you anymore. I let you free because it was killing me knowing you wouldn't be by my side for three months. It broke my heart to write that note but I knew it would hurt too much without you. I found out right away I was wrong because I realized anybody could have you now, and I couldn't let another player come along and break your heart, so I came here with you."
