"Get a room!" "Who the hell are they?!" and "Oh my god! He's SO hot!" were just a few of the things I could hear teenagers yelling, due to the open windows and the fact that Chase refused to let me go, even for air.
I finally couldn't breathe anymore, so I put my hands on his chest and pushed him away. He rested his forehead against mine and in a low and seductive voice whispered, "Mallory, we don't have to go to this party. We could go back to your house."
I knew right away what he meant, and almost considered it before saying, "No Chase, we need to go to this. Zach is expecting to see us here."
He sighs and releases his hands from my face, and instantly I miss their warmth. After one quick kiss he says, "Ok. Let's head out into the crowd of the wild then," he gives me a small smile and we both open our doors. He runs around to my side and wraps his arm around my waist, pulling me to his side, as we walk into the sea of people.
After walking forward for a few minutes, pushing through teens having conversations, dancing, or some that were kissing, making out, or a few performing some other sexual acts I don't want to begin thinking about, much less have to describe to you.
"Where is the actual bonfire at?" Chase asks me, grabbing my wrist to stop me from walking.
"Uhm," I say, looking around on my tiptoes, "It should be around here somewhere. I could tell you if I could see. Should've worn heels." I mutter the last part, looking down at my flat sneakers and sighing.
"I can fix that problem," he says with a smile, and he leans down, "Hop on my back."
I do as he says and can see much better being a foot higher in the air, above a good amount of the heads of the teenagers here.
"What do you see?!" he yells, over the radio someone turned on a few feet away from us.
"A freaking huge fire and a huge pile of wood twenty feet away from it!" I yell, hopping down, "There's another fire going on, but I doubt it's supposed to be there with this many teenagers here!"
"Another great reason to head back to your place and hang out. Let's go!" he says starting to drag me back to the parking lot.
"No! Let's go check it out! This could be the talk of the summer! If it really was on accident then we can leave and grab a rental movie or something, ok? I just wanna go see what the deal is first," I said dragging him towards the fire and wood pile.
"Fine. But there's way too many people in this small of a space. Let me carry you," he says, picking me up in a piggyback ride again.
I could get used to this.
"Well if you insist," I say, smiling and leaning my head against his back, relaxing while he carries me in the direction I saw the flames.
I could tell we were getting close, not only by the temperature change, but from the change of scent. It went from sweaty, due to the amount of bodies in this confined space, to a nice wood and ashy smell.
A few minutes later, we, I mean, Chase, finally broke through the crowd of strangers and got to the clearing that held it. The bonfire. When I saw dancing and heard laughing, I knew that this was purposely set on fire so I leaned over to one of his ears and said, "See. We can stay. It's intentionally. But because I was partially looking forward to a movie and some pizza, whatta ya say we stay until midnight and then we can go back to my house and watch a movie and order a pizza?"
He looks sad at first, but when I offer something we'd both like- hanging out at the bonfire for a few hours and getting some alone time to hang out- he can't help but smile and accept my offer.
