Something was coming.

Vera fastened her wristbands over her wrists, getting a jolt of pride once the bronze glimmered off of the room's lights.

"Are you ready, Angel Blue?" The nickname and the familiar voice caused Vera to grin and turn around,

"Gabriel," She greeted before fastening the strap tight and secure under his chin, smiling that motherly way of hers as her proficient fingers tucked one of his golden curls into the helmet.

"You'll do wonders, Vera. You were made for this," He sensed her quaking nerves as she gave him another smile.

"I'm just a bit timid. What happens if I fail to lead my people to victory? What happens if I cannot succeed at the one job I was conceived for?" She murmured, fear lacing her words and pulling at Gabriel's heartstrings.

"Vera...You are Heaven's Guardian." He recalled and smoothed her cheekbone with a touch full of love and delicacy.

Vera's brilliant eyes fluttered before she stepped back, holding up her fist. Gabriel seemed to catch along quickly, for he brought his own fist up and tapped it on top of Veras, a sort of tradition they held together,

"I've got you, kid." Gabriel comforted with a wink as Vera glowed with that great, rich and genuine smile of hers, the one that had Gabriel's heart sailing.

"And I, you, Gabriel," She ensured before rising on the tips of her golden boots, the ones with the many etchings adorning the sides.

She placed a light, tender kiss on the corner of his mouth before running out of the door.

Running out to lead her kingdom to victory and triumph.

Running out like she wasn't about to take on one of the most difficult tasks in all of creation.

Running out to her death as if she had no clue.

Gabriel watched her run out headfirst into the raging war between Heaven and Purgatory.

And he couldn't help but smile.

And so he couldn't help but to watch in all her pride and honor, her almighty, confident and sure steps leading the raging warriors deeper into something that left scars...more or less fatal due to the recklessness of a being.

He couldn't help but to observe this woman. This God-like warrior, merged and morphed encouragingly by that of his Father's hands; a gift bestowed upon Heaven and the people...and she was merely looked up to as a solider, not a friend or inspiration the way Gabriel had.

But it always seems as if when something good occurs, Hell is unleashed and that good moment blows into dust, like that of a blown dandelion, hoping to spark a wistful, granted wish in the child's life.

It didn't take long before flames engulfed the center of the entire battleground, coursing too far to be deemed nonfatal.

And soon, Heaven's Guardian had been defeated.

God mourned, and soon his depressive state caused Earth to be swamped with a downpour that went on for forty days and forty nights.

Along with the other grieving Angels, there was Gabriel, who was delicately tracing his finger under his bottom lip, as if her petite lips against his would resurface and he could bathe in her warmth again.

"We must acknowledge her release...For she went a hero. A soldier. A guardian." Castiel inquired.

Gabriel risked a glimpse over at him, and what he saw disturbed him.

Even his brother looked like everything had been emptied of him; the life, the light, the leadership and the pride was all gone...He seemed like a shell of who he used to be.

"We must..." Gabriel murmured as he rubbed his lips until they were smarted and raw, soon drawing away to mess with something else to occupy him.

A short while later, Gabriel was standing in front of the towering statue, a ghost of a smile adorning his worn and tired features.

Before him stood a marble statue, modeled in a position that proved it was powerful and headstrong, great and ruthless. Her features were carved and chiseled into the marble with the utmost of attention, even the finest of details such as her double row of lashes and the freckles dotting the spots below her bright eyes, like constellations starring her cheeks.

Her bronze hair flew behind her, under her helmet, in a way that resembled a raging flame.

Maybe it was symbolism for her impetuous attitude, Gabriel thought, soon chuckling to himself at the thought.

The figure just inflamed with the presence of fierceness and passion, readiness and genuine potential.

It fit her.

Gabriel kept a grieving expression as he reached up, tapping his fist with that of his Guardian's clenched fist around her gleaming sword, the one she always had fashioned to her hip.

"I've got you, kid," He murmured before holding two of his own fingers to his lips and then pressing that against the cheek he had touched moments before she fell a hero.

Every day he visited that monument. Every day he tapped their fists together and told her of the things she was missing...even deciding to crack open the journal she had stumbled upon and reading his entries to her.

But one day, he came and sat before her booted feet, eyes flashing as he thought that of her last minutes were legendary.

She ran into the fight with bright eyes lighting up to the flames surrounding her petite figure. She ran with pure certainty and the will of achieving, never losing. She held no dread.

She was never afraid. Never afraid, for she was made up of only determination and passion that rocked to her core and fought the fight it needed to conquer.

"Heya, Angel Blue...I just wanted to stop by..." He murmured, tracing the engravings on her boots with sorrow and desire; the desire of wanting to wish her feet shuffled and her give him a smart, innocent remark.

But it wouldn't happen.

"I'm going down to Earth. I've gotta few friends, Sam and Dean Winchester...They need help.." He smiled up at her, squinting once the sun shone right in his face.

"You always wanted to go...But, anyway, I've found my place...My place from now on is down on Earth...Down protecting those Winchesters." Gabriel laughed as tears pricked his eyes.

"I'll see you soon, Angel Blue..." Gabriel whispered as he tapped their fists together one last time.

And then he was gone.
