I opened my mouth to say yes but the words didn't seem to form.
Instead I asked, "How did you eventually find out that I was waiting for you outside?"
He dropped his hand from my face and the corner of his lips faintly curved downwards. He let out the breath he was holding. "The servants were talking about a girl waiting outside my gate and how she didn't leave even though the butler didn't let her in when it started to rain."
"Oh, I see." I didn't know what else to say. The atmosphere was really awkward because Ying Yue was still waiting to have lunch with him. I forgot to add that she was invited here by an imperial concubine while I had drugged him and stubbornly forced myself into his manor.
I should've reminded myself of my own statues. He is the outstanding 4th Prince, son of the legendary Emperor Kangxi. I am just a niece of the forgotten Shu Fei that only has one daughter and my father is just a fourth-ranked military official.
I should hurry up and head back home. Our social standings are too far apart and I've crossed the line way too many times.
After today, I shouldn't contact him anymore.
"I'm sorry. I really didn't mean to harm you. That day I just-". The expression hr had his on his face when he heard my words frightened me and I choked.
I took in a deep breath to shake off the fear and continued saying,"I went overboard that day. It was wrong for me to drug you. If your highness wishes to punish me in any way possible, your servant will willingly accept it."
I got off the chair and knelt down on the floor, kowtowing to him to show my sincerity. My brain was telling me that I should end whatever relationship I had with the 4th Prince now but somehow my heart felt a bit heavy. I could still remember perfectly the care the had given me while I was sick. It was the closest I had ever been with a man.
I felt his hands trying to pull me up but I slowly shook my head. It hurt but I couldn't just allow him to let go of the situation. Who knows how this would bite me back later if I didn't resolve it?
After some time, he stopped forcing me to stand. My eyes were on the ground so I couldn't see his expression.
"Any way possible you say?" he said with a glint of mischief.
"Yes, your highness." My heart started to beat faster knowing whatever punishment awaits me, wasn't going to be good.
"What if your punishment was to serve by my side forever?"
I instantly replied, "That isn't very appropriate your highness for a punishment. Perhaps something else?"
"Hmm," he said, still having the same mischievous tone. "I thought you said it was up to me to decide and anything is alright with you. Since you have a punishment in mind, please share it with benwang."
"If your highness wishes to inflict physical punishment on me, Mei Xiang is willing to accept. If your highness wishes for Mei Xiang to pay, Mei Xiang would like to ask for some time to gather the money."
He let out a sigh. "Alright. Let's just say that you owe me one first. Right now, I have not think of a punishment and I have a guest waiting for me. Get up, the floor is cold and you've just recovered. If you continue to harm your body, you might just need to stay in my manor forever."
My heart sank at his words. I didn't get what I wanted. Instead I got the exact opposite. That day I really should have thought twice or maybe even ten times before slipping the drug into the tea!
