the mood of the party was brought back to life when the bride and groom stood once again on stage for their last speech and thanked the guests, officially ending the wedding reception.

meizhen felt awkward after causing a scene with yifei. her logical mind wanted to regret, but something in her heart made her feel proud that she said that.

they went back on their seats after the scene. she avoided looking at chengcheng to calm her fast-beating heart, while the latter did the opposite, whose eyes were fixed on meizhen the whole time.

as soon as the wedded couple did their exit, meizhen squeezed herself with the other guests who was also leaving. she doesn't know how to face chengcheng since she said that in front of many people. she still continued to run even if she knew chengcheng would definitely follow her.

"meizhen! wait!" he called out to her when she ran outside the hotel.

chengcheng fastened his pace to catch up with her. she stopped running when they reached the end of hotel's area, a garden at the cliff close to the ocean. there were no other people besides them because it was almost midnight.

it was late when meizhen realized she should've went home to her room instead. the fact that chengcheng was following her pressured her mind more. she crouched with hands on her knees, panting because of the run. chengcheng walked up to her and put his jacket around her to protect her from the cold night breeze.

"you ran away, again." he went in front of her to arrange the jacket. "mind to tell me why?"

"you already know." and you would find me, anyway... meizhen stood up, crossed her arms and kept her eyes down, afraid to get lost in his eyes once more and say things that she'd regret like earlier.

"i don't know."

"i just- urgh."

meizhen looked up to him with her usual irritated face. when she saw his honesty, she gathered all her breath before speaking, preparing to tell everything. it's not always good to keep it in, and he deserved to know it.

"it's fine. we can talk tomorrow. it's night and you need rest-"

"no! i'm saying everything now because i might change my mind tomorrow. fan chengcheng." meizhen looked up to him straight in the eye. "i'm afraid to say that... i love you. as a friend too, but i really love you. i shouldn't, i know. i shouldn't like you because we're not in a real relationship. heck, i even said i love you than i like you."

tears started pooling in her eyes. meizhen's the type of person who's heart turns soft when she pours out all her courage, especially in front of something or someone she deeply cares about. usually her mind takes over her, but now her heart is speaking.

"hey! why are you smiling? i'm telling the truth! i'm not joking! are you mocking me?" meizhen started punching his chest, a bit hard. when he continued to laugh, she groaned and turned on her heel, ready to leave.

"wait! no- i mean, i'm sorry."

chengcheng quickly stopped her from leaving and made her face him again, still with a big goofy smile on his face. meizhen doesn't understand his reaction and hit him again. regret was starting to eat her up slowly as she tried to forcefully stop the tears in her eyes.

"i'm happy because you finally returned the same feelings as i do. you finally love me too. come here." he pulled her in tightly for a hug. "i've been waiting for this since high school."

"you better not be joking at me, fan chengcheng, because i really meant what i said!" he released her from the hug, bodies still close but enough space to gaze at each other. her hands were on his chest, which was ready earlier to push him just in case.

"you stupid! how can you not realize my feelings for you when we're together? it's selfish, but i intentionally asked you to be my pretend girlfriend and risked our friendship because i want you back in my life and i love you so much, ji meizhen. ever since high school, maybe even when we were kids, i like you so much, i couldn't last a day without seeing you. i love how you're my bestfriend, you know me the best, and i'm most comfortable with you. i never imagined ending up with any other girl than you."

meizhen's heart was deeply moved by his confession. her happiness couldn't be described as the butterflies in her stomach multiplied and her heart beated as loud as everything around. she didn't even realized she was smiling until chengcheng pinched her cheek and pointed it out.

"i hate you! that's too cringey!" she laughed. "actually... ever since that night you found me in the playground, all i could think of was you, and our relationship, if i do really like you, like linong said. and i do, and most of my reasons are the same as yours. i didn't realized how special you were to me until today, and... ugh fine. i'm sorry for that."

"does this mean we are in real relationship starting from now on?" chengcheng wiggled his eyebrows playfully.

"i've always thought of you as my real boyfriend." she confessed shyly and turned her head away.

"does this also mean, i can kiss you? as a commencement of our relationship."

"you did that already before." she said defensively.

"but it wasn't on the lips. please, at least once. i'm too shy to do it before." he knew before that if he did that suddenly without her permission like in dramas he would be slapped by meizhen or kicked on his leg.

"fine!" meizhen rolled her eyes to hide her nervousness.

as chengcheng leaned in, his eyes focused on her lips, meizhen closed her eyes shut. this was both of each first kisses, sealed and protected for the one they only love. when his lips met hers, there was a firework-like spark in them. it was a simple and innocent kiss with souls burning for each other.

meizhen was the first to pull away with a little exaggerated breathing. "wow, you really did drink alcohol earlier."

"you ruined the moment! i was about to say something good like your lips are soft." he whined and reached in to kiss her again but she put a hand on his lips.

"there's still more kisses to come- sht- i mean!" she groaned and covered her face which was beaming bright pink.

after a few more bantering, teasing and hitting chengcheng received from meizhen, the happy couple went back to their units with intertwined hands, as he suggested. when meizhen saw that her roommate xuanxuan was sleeping with zhengting i the boys's room and justin nowhere to be found, she let chengcheng sleep with her on her room.

"we have a lot of firsts today. first real relationship, first kiss, and first time sleeping together!" chengcheng said excitedly next to her and scooted closer.

"we're just sleeping! no other stuff or i'll let you sleep outside for real!"

chengcheng gazed at her lovingly, with his arm around her half-hugging her. meizhen couldn't take it and turned her back on him. "good night! i hate you."

"i love you too."

meizhen's face got redder and hid herself more under the covers. chengcheng smiled like a fool again and hugged her closer.

they slept with smiles in their faces. heart and mind filled with love. a new chapter awaits.
