The Beginning Danny's P.O.V.

I look at Addy and know she is lying to me. I wish she would open up about what bothers her instead of keeping everything inside it's never a good outcome. I sigh and let her win this argument.
"So what are you doing this weekend Addy?"
She shrugs "i dont know maybe rent a cabin or something."
"You need to get out more Addy." I say as i grab another beer out of her fridge.
"Was there something you wanted Danny?"
I smirk at her and i can just tell you this if looks could kill i'd be burning alive right about now.
"Oh come on Ads if you got laid you might be better company. "
"Great advice Daniel I'll get right on that tonight!" She says sarcastically.
I set my beer down and move a piece of hair from her neck skillfully letting my fingers softly dance across her neck trying to find that one spot all girls have.
"Why wait for tonight and risk some random guy or girl you don't know. How about we help one another with this problem." I whisper in her ear softly still trying to find that spot.
"Not going to happen and the spot is on the other side. Do you really think i don't know your tricks? I'm not some fan girl that is going to melt into you and let you have your way."
Her eyes looked pissed and she looks like a tea pot about to blow. Now we've been here before normally with me being high or one of us pushing the other too far and it turns ugly quick. Things get said stuff gets thrown and broke usually ends with one if not both of us bleeding.
"Adeline please tell me what is wrong?" I plead with her trying to open her shell.
"I'm fine please just leave i don't want company."
I open my mouth to argue but instead i just drop it.
"Can i help you pack for your weekend away?"
"I haven't found anywhere yet to go if i do leave though Danny "
"Leave it to me Ads I'm great at these things."

* Later The Next Night *

"Danny! Open the fucking door!"
I groan as I get out of my hotel bed and answer the door to see Ben standing there.
"What the fuck Ben it's late why you here?"
"I cant find Adeline she wont answer she's not at the cabin she rented. I'm worried about her Danny."
"Maybe she went out and hooked up I'm sure she is fine and enjoying her self." I say trying to reassure Ben, but it doesnt work cause we both know Addy too well to believe that. She's the kind of girl that will choose a book over a movie any day the kind that much rather you be happy over herself the girl that can match anyone (even me) in witty banner the girl that feels like....well she feels like home. The girl you would skip a night out with guys just to hangout with. the girl you take home to mom n dad. She's homegrown hometown girl. She's the girl I'd do anything for just a tiniest hint of a chance with her. Do I love her? I'm not sure I cant tell, all I know is I love when we tour down in North Carolina n we can stay for a few days. She always welcomes us with open arms. I can't count how many times i've gotten way to dunk and ended up crashing at her place just to wake up to the smell of breakfast and the sound of music and her singing along. It's truly a heart warming site to see her in her natural beauty her hair a mess and pulled back a sleepy smile on her lips and in her eyes, baggy shirt (sometimes mine or James mainly mine cause of how drunk I was from the number of times we forgot shit like that at her place she always told us we have exactly 2 weeks after she mentions it to us to claim it or it's hers).
"I have a plane to catch back home I need you to find her."
"I'll find her Ben no problem. I'm sure she just got bored and decided to head back home and is sound asleep with her phone on silent like she does. "
I watch Ben sigh in relief believing my lie and leaves to go back home to Arizona. I get dressed and go to her place I know exactly where she hides her spare key I walk in her house and start looking around for any clue of where she might be. I look in her room and see a new package of sleeping pills with them all cut out of the packaging.
"Fuck Addy what did you do, and where are you?"
I run upstairs where I hear trickling of water hitting the floor and start pounding on the door
"Addy! Addy! Addy! Open the door please Addy come on!"
With no answer of any kind I manage to mess the door up enough where it opens just to see her under the water in the tub barely breathing.
"ADDY ADDY COME ON COME ON BREATHE COUGH UP THE WATER DO SOMETHING. SCREAM AT ME FOR SOMETHING JUST LET ME KNOW YOU'RE OKAY!"
I beg and plead with her as I pull her from the tub I place my ear on her chest and she isn't breathing. I start pacing aroud trying to think of what to do looking anywhere in the bathroom for something. I look for my phone or hers neither are up here with us. I start to panic and then I remember at one time she saved me she stuck something down my throat until I threw up all the liquor I drank just an hour before. I start doing that and begging and pleading with her to come back to us come back to me. She doesn't respond so I start cpr I start praying to God for my Addy to come back. Finally she starts coughing up water and what I can only guess is remainder of the pills that didn't devolve completely yet.
"ADDY LOOK AT ME! ADDY STAY WITH ME DON'T CLOSE YOUR EYES! ADDY!" I scream at her as she closes her eyes and all the sudden her body starts shaking uncontrollably and her mouth foaming. I run as fast as I can to grab my phone and call 911. They tell me they can't get here for 25 minutes because of roads being closed due to flooding. I scream at them with no luck so I run back to the room n she just looks like death. I sit next to her and all the sudden she sits straight up and looks at me. I'm frozen in fear not sure if this is all in my mind or what.
"Danny..... you should have left me to die."
"Adeline Maria Marybeth Thomas I'll never leave you to die."
"Hospital?"
"Yes but you are coming home with me."
*Move forward 4 months n three days n two weeks n 7 hours*
I pick Addy up from the mental hospital. She looks different her natural red hair is showing all the way to her waist almost now. Her clothing she is wearing doesn't match her personality at all but i guess that is normal due to it being a hospital. She doesn't look sad but she doesn't look happy either. I hear her taping her long nails against the counter asking for the rest of her things she has here before the nurses take me to a conference type room to tell me to make sure she takes her medication. I try and listen but im so anxious as they go over everything with me my mind wonders off. I watch the clock tick slowly driving me crazy for i just want to hold my Addy in my arms for the first time since that night.
"Mr. Worsnop we are releasing Ms. Thomas into your care please pay attention." Says the annoyed young nurse.
"Im sorry ma'am."
She makes an aggravated noise and literally slams the discharge papers in front of me to sign.
"She's been a pain in my side since she came so just sign here so i can release her "
I sign as fast as i can and im told to wait there for her.
"How long have you been in love with Adeline?" The older nurse ask me.
"We've been friends for years nothing more."
"I watched my grandparents of 58 years have the same look you do when you think about her. Just do yourselves a favor and don't over think it."
I go to open my mouth and she gets up and gives Addy a hug and tells her to take care. We walk outside in silence and she puts her stuff in the back of my truck and hops in. After about twenty minutes of her sleeping she wakes up n talks to me.
"Danny please take me to get something good to eat. They tried to poison me in there i swear it true."
I look over at her and see her pleading eyes and being over dramatic as well. I start laughing at her.
"I'm serious Daniel they tried to poison me!"
This just makes me laugh harder
getting a slight rise outta her.
"Always so cruel to me!"
"They didn't try to poison you Ad."
"Oh my God they did poison me! Quick i need the antidote!" She says laughing along with me.
"So what is the antidote Addy?"
"Hmmm."
I look at her thinking doing the math in her head till she comes up with the conclusion.
"Kitchen sink ice cream dish, pizza, wait no Chinese general chicken extra egg rolls, extra spring rolls with that pink sauce, fried and steamed rice and chicken alfredo from my favorite Italian place!"
"Strange combination."
"Oh and Country fried steak from that one place with those to die for cheddar cheese and bacon with sour cream. On second thought just 3 order of those and ice cream."
"Are you sure Addy it might make you sick cause you havent eaten stuff like that in over 4 months."
"Danny please please please please."
I smile to myself knowing i can use this to my advantage.
"I dont know Addy the doctors may not like that kind of food going into your system."
"Danny please i'll do whatever you want please please please."
I look at her with a evil look n seductive smirk as i look her up and down.
"Whatever i want hmm where to start." After i say that she smacks the back of my head.
"I didn't mean like that you pervert."
"You said whatever i wanted."
"I take it back get me the horrible stuff they call food."
"Too late Addy I already ordered the food when i stopped and got gas, and we are here"
She looks out the window and thinks for a second and gets a huge smile on her face.
"What?"
"You ordered everything before i told you what i wanted."
"So?"
"So my offer is invalid since you voided any chance of a bargain."
"Curse you Addy."
She smiles hopping outta my truck to help me get the food we ordered.

* four hours after we eat n talk n she gets her hair cut*

"Oh my god!"
I turn around to look at her.
"What's wrong Addy?"
"Nothing i just remembered i can get a bath without nearly freezing water that shuts off all the time."
I smile to my self as i get up and head to the bathroom with the jacuzzi tub. I light a few candles and pour in her bubble bath stuff. Just as it fills up i hear her behind me.
"I hope it's the right temperature."
"Close your eyes or leave the room."
"You're no fun sometimes Addy."
"You'll live Danny."
I watch as she rolls her eyes at me. I walk out and clean up n start a movie till she comes back out. She grabs a soft blanket n sits beside me on the couch.
"I wasn't sure where you put my pj tops at so i borrowed one of your long sleeved shirts. I hope you dont mind."
"You can keep it if you want it looks good on you."
"Adeline?
"Yes?"

"How come you tried to kill yourself?"
I watch as she clings to her locket n tears form in her eyes. I don't ask again n just hold her till she falls asleep n carry her to her room. It's the middle of fall now and the nights get really chilly. I cover her up and as i fix her locket the light shines on it showing an engraving

Love Mommy

I try and think of anyone she ever mentioned named Evelyn but my mind keeps drawing a blank. She never had any kids.....did she? Surely we all would have known, but maybe we were so caught up in our own lives to even ask her how she was let alone if anything new happened in her life. I sigh and kiss her forhead and head to my room. About n hour later i wake up freezing I go to turn on the heat only to find out the power is out.
"Great now what do i do?"
I knock on Addys door n no answer, automatically my head n heart race to the worst conclusion. I knock again.
"Addy?"
I hear faint grumbling and i smile to myself she hates when people wake her up.
"Addy can i come in."
"It's your house Danny."
I roll my eyes as i walk in the room.
"Powers out."
She doesnt even open her eyes she just takes a deep breath through her nose and smiles.
"It's snowing Danny."
"No it's not."
"Look again and wait a minute."
I do as she says and sure enough it starts snowing n snowing hard.
"Yeah it is and the house is fucking freezing due to no power."
I watch her get her crazy look in her eyes and that can only mean one thing.
"No no no no Addy im not doing that."
"I haven't said anything yet."
