All the myths of monsters parents tell as bedtime stories are true. But these monsters don't creep beneath your bed in the dead of night and listen to your soft, steady breathing as you fall into a deeper sleep. They don't hide in the far corner of your closet behind the old fur parka your mother thought would be needed but was worn no more than once before becoming one with the dark, claustrophobic space.

These monsters walk among us and blend in with ease because they wear our skin.

They linger in the dimly lit, crowded halls of local high schools, from the far end of the beach under the pier. They're everywhere and nowhere all at once. Nobody suspects that beneath the surface of a smile and forced words lies a monster far more terrifying than one could imagine.

Nobody ever warns us of the monsters with beautiful eyes and heartbeats; with calloused fingertips and two legs to walk on.

Monsters are brothers, sisters, sons and daughters. Monsters are cruel and sadistic. Monsters go for the killing of one's innocence.

The real monsters in this world are human.
