She sat in the limousine, listening to the silence of the inhabited vehicle. Hugo and Sookie were sitting at their own windows, each of them nervously contemplating what may conspire within the walls of the Fellowship church. How she longed to have her pack travelling with her, she had been gone only a few days and she felt like the wolf within her had fallen into a deep sense of hibernation, waiting for the return of her wolves and her pack.
When she was with her pack, it was normal to catch echoes of a voice raised in anger, joy, frustration or laughter. During Pack meetings she had committed every pounding footstep, every barrel through a doorway, wolves sprawled across sofas and carpets, their presence so loud she could hear it in the walls when they were gone.
Gone. But she was the one who was parted from her family. Back in Shreveport her wolves still gathered together, still laughed together, still hunted together; and here she was, gazing out of the tinted window and into the bright fields that held the intense volume of wheat that grew high above her shoulders. The young Packmaster had to constantly remind herself of her temporary situation. She should be thinking of it as a respite, a few days to rest and plan before she returned, and how she fought for a return.
There would be. She had not disclosed these worries to Eric, for she knew he had enough to contend with as it was. He did not need to know of her burdens. Elliot Woods, a former Pack member of Mississippi who was leading a fight against her kind, had now set his sights on annihilating each werewolf a Pack at a time. After this threat had been dealt with, and she had destroyed the culprit, she would return and she would welcome every boom of shouts and footsteps until she retreated into her peaceful back garden and wonder why she did not revel from the time spent by herself. It seemed she had grown to hate the silence.
She had delighted in it once, during those blessedly short years between her mother’s death and her unsolicited rise to Packmaster status. Silence truly meant armistice; it meant her father had left again, leaving her the peace and quiet she wanted to allow her time to write the emotive music that had made her first official album an outstanding success. It seemed she took those peaceful moments for granted, because along came her Pack, along came Eric and she knew it would never be quite again.
The Packmaster could still remember the early days of her budding relationship with the Viking. She remembered sitting on the couch in the building that became Fangtasia, giving him one of her first genuine smiles. She had no doubt that he was rejoicing in seeing it considering back then she had been a fiery, angry but confused young woman who was still struggling to comprehend the sheer responsibility it took in running a pack. It was these early memories she had of him that she cherished because it was these confrontations that had shaped their relationship.
The young woman turned her attention from the window and towards the two humans who were separated in their own thoughts. Hugo belonged to Isabel, and the pair of them wanted to contribute to the plan; after all Godric was Isabel’s Sherriff, hence her wanting to help. It seemed she wasn’t prepared to allow the strangers from Louisiana to take all of the credit. But as Robyn turned her attention towards Hugo, she was unable to shake the feeling of distrust.
She’d been too busy worrying about what her pack were doing and what their plan entailed. She’d seen him forcing himself into a conversation with either herself or Sookie, seemingly trying too hard to get them to like him. She didn’t realize she was drifting away from the couple, obviously living up to the expectation of a ‘werewolf’, they were always known as a supernatural race that kept very much to themselves. An ideal they shared with the Witches.
