As soon as the memory is over, I snap back to reality. Sebastian has finished with the buttons, and is helping with my socks and boots. I stare down at him, his expression unseeable because he is not looking up.
As soon as he stands up, I follow suit. “Sebastian, look at me.”
His eyes meet mine. For a second, I am lost in his red gaze, blood-red, fire-red, ruby-red. And then I touch my lips to his, wrapping my arms around his neck. He kisses me back, putting his hands on my waist. We stay like this for several minutes, and I desperately want him.
Damn tonight, let him take me now, in broad daylight. He knows I want him, and laughs against my lips. Damn it, he turns me on with the slightest smile. He likes playing with me. He has played with me ever since I first admitted I loved him.
But then again, demons are notorious for that exact sort of thing.
I pull away first, resting my forehead against his. We merely stare into each other’s eyes, being content right here and now, together in an intimate, beautiful moment.
The door opens. “Mistress–”
Sebastian immediately starts straightening my new tie, and I drop my hands. It is as if that moment never happened.
I glare at Mey-Rin, who is poking her head around my door. “Someone is here to see you.”
“Is it another suitor again?” Sebastian questions, turning around and looking at the maid. My hand is hidden from her sight, and I place it on his back, in a teasing way. He reacts slightly, no more than a second, and then his body is slack, like it was before.
“No. It’s Ash Landers, the Queen’s messenger.” She answers. Both Sebastian and I’s eyes darken. Ash Landers is an angel - Sebastian’s sworn enemy. I will deal with this, so Sebastian doesn’t have to.
“Bring him to my study,” I command. “Make sure he has refreshments.”
Mey-Rin gazes longingly at Sebastian. It is common knowledge she has a crush on him. I shoot her a sharp glance, and she scuttles out. Sebastian turns back to me. “I suppose I should make sure they don’t get into trouble, my lady.”
I nod. “Very well. The ring.”
He nods this time, and kneeling, he slips the Phantomhive ring onto my thumb. It has been passed down through generations of my family, and now it belongs to me. I stare at it, remembering my father, the last earl to wear this ring. My older brother also died in the fire that took my childhood away from me, so the ring passed down to me and now I am the one wearing it.
“My lady,” Sebastian interrupts my thoughts. “Shall I go and prepare the tea for you?”
“Yes, Sebastian.” When he stands, I move in and give him a light kiss. He immediately responds, by drawing closer and putting his hands on my waist again. We stay like this again, and only break off when I need air. As a demon, he does not need it and looks slightly annoyed that my need for air got in his way.
I smile. “Sebastian, tonight you’ll have me all to yourself. Don’t worry, you can do what you like all night long. But for now, we need to get to work. After all, I have a ball to attend and an angel to deal with.”
“Mistress, I don’t particularly like the idea of you being alone with Ash Landers,” Sebastian says, his eyes darkening. “He does know who I am, after all.”
“Do not worry about me, Sebastian.” I smirk at him. “If Ash has any objections, I might let you give him the Phantomhive hospitality we give to those I don’t like. Fair enough?”
