As she dealt with her business, Sebastian watched his young mistress. She was clever, a good sign when dealing with underhanded officials. She knew what to say, and how to stop a trick before it began.
What he didn't understand was her attraction to him. Why would a human love a demon as she did? It was blatantly obvious to him she wanted nothing more then his full attention, alone. One might think all countesses were like this, but she was different.
She cast a glance at him, and he held her gaze. She was forced to break eye contact to not be rude to her guest, but he could sense she was not giving in. In fact, she was determined to shatter the fragile image everyone thought of her as.
He smirked. With him at her side, they would be unstoppable.
A strange feeling touched him, and he brushed it away. Within two years, he would devour her soul. He could not afford to entertain feelings for her. Feelings would get in his way.

As it actually turns out, I do not go shopping today. Sebastian has left that up to Madam Red and Lady Elizabeth (who has apparently decided to help my ever-faithful aunt). I am fairly certain he knows he is torturing me, because when I cast a secret glance at him, he is smirking, pleased with himself.
No, while he has to deal with Mey-Rin (whom I am fairly certain causes the accidents on purpose just to be close to him) and the others' annoying stupidity, I am forced to meet with company officials and read over boring paperwork.
The officials were already invited to the ball, although I have no idea why, and they have decided to arrive early to torture me.
The last official walks out, and I sigh in relief. Now I have a ball to get through, and the real fun begins.
Well, put in Sebastian's words. He is certainly looking forward to tonight. I can tell by the way he constantly stays by my side, as if making sure I won't get into trouble with one of the officials.
Does he honestly think I would let something happen between me and one of those people? I hate them. They try and constantly weasel money from me, claiming their company needs it.
I put my feet up on my desk, folding my hands in a thoughtful way, as I allow my mind to wander. It immediately goes back to the Queen's letter.
~Alexandria, you have served me faithfully for years. I much appreciate everything you and your butler do for my protection. It pains me to ask you to violate your parents' graves, but I fear they hid something from me that I need.~
I can feel myself getting angry, so I divert my attention to something else. I am still furious, however. Does she really expect me to do something as unforgivable and horrid as that? To disturb my parents' final resting places?
"Mistress," Sebastian calls. I look up.
"Yes, Sebastian?" I ask, unprepared for what comes next.
He closes the door behind the official. The lock is set, and I am startled by the sound of it clicking into place. Sebastian has a strange look on his face, one I have never seen him wear.
"Are you alright, Sebastian?" I ask, returning my attention to the papers on my desk. His intent gaze is unsettling, and I feel slightly uncomfortable.
"You have quite a talent for dealing with underhanded officials," he says quietly. But I can hear him perfectly. I look up, and meet his red eyes.
"I get the feeling that is not what this is about," I say, aware of how close he is. "Sebastian, what is th-"
I never get the chance to finish, because he presses his lips firmly against mine. Before I can push myself away, he grabs my wrists and pulls me up, never breaking the kiss. On impulse, I slip a hand out of his grasp and run my fingers through his dark, silky hair. He wraps an arm around my waist.
