Chapter 16:

Niall's POV-

I had to do something. But what? Liam couldn't just mope around like he had been the last week forever. I had to do something. I paced the floor of the living room in front of a sleeping Liam. That's when I saw his phone, and a plan began to hatch. I picked up the phone and left the room. I took a deep breath before dialing the number. She picked up on the second ring. "Hello?" She sounded like she's been crying. "Erin? It's Niall." "Niall? What do you want?" She sounded almost offended by me calling. "I want to make things right between you and Liam." "No." "No? Why not?" I was confused. Was she still mad? She just didn't understand. "This is all his fault. And I don't want anything to do with him. He could easily do this again." "But Erin, you don't understand. He-" "I don't care what his reason was. It was uncalled for. And this conversation is over. If he wants to make it right, he should call. Not get his best friend to do it for him. Tell him to man up if he ever wants me back." "But-" "Goodbye." and she hung up. I was in shock. Obviously, Erin wasn't going to take him back. New plan. I had to find him a new girl. But first, I had to get his lazy bum off the couch and out the door. I walked over to behind the couch and shook his shoulder. "Liam?" He wasn't waking up. I shook him harder. "Liam." Oh great. Now he was just going to pretend that he was asleep so he wouldn't have to get up. That wasn't going to fly. I shoved him off the couch. "LIAM!" He groaned. "Today's the day. You're leaving this house." "Why?" he mumbled. "Because. I'm tired of having you mope around. You've got to get past this. You're going to be fine." He was still lying on the floor. "Nothing's fine, I'm torn," he said to the floor. I stood over him. "Yeah, you're funny. Now get up." He rolled over and looked up at me. "You're serious aren't you?" "Yes, I am. Now get up. You're taking me to lunch." He sat up at that. "I'M buying YOU lunch?" "Yes. I've had to eat lunch by myself for over a week because you couldn't be bothered to go anywhere. Now go get dressed." I pulled him up on to his feet. He walked off to change clothes. I texted some friends while I was waiting. Liam came back in the room just as I sent the last message. "Ready?" I asked. He grabbed the car keys and headed to the car in response. We started down the road. "Where to?" he asked. "Nando's?" "So predictable," he said with a smile. We pulled into a space and headed inside. Two girls waved at us from a corner booth, and I started walking towards them. But Liam grabbed my arm and stopped me. "What are Jenny and Desiree doing here?" he asked. "Well, it's a restaurant. I assume they're eating lunch." Liam gave me a look. "I invited them," I said. He gave me another look, sadder this time. "I'm not ready to date again," he said. "I know. They're just friends Liam. Calm down." He have me a little half smile and we walked over and sat down. "Have you guys ordered yet?" I asked. "Nope, just about to," Jenny answered as the waitress walked up. The others ordered and then she looked at me. "The usual?" she asked with a smile. She knew me and my order. That's how often I came. "Of course," I said, and handed her the table's menus. The rest of the afternoon passed in a blur. We talked and laughed for hours at that table. Liam was back to his normal self. I knew this was a good idea. We walked the girls out to their car. Liam looked at the both of them. "Thank you so much. For today. I needed it," he said. Jenny took one of his hands in hers, and kissed him on the cheek. "Call me," she said. "Anytime. For anything." He have her hand a squeeze and then kissed her on the forehead. "I will," he replied. I shot a glance over at Desiree. We were both suppressing giggles. I gave her a hug before grabbing Liam's hand and dragging him towards the car. He started to get in the driver's seat, but I stopped him. "You better let me drive, slick," I said with a laugh. We rode in silence the whole way home. Liam was smiling like an idiot out the window, and I was laughing on the inside at him. It was so good to see him happy again.
