Someone touched my shoulder and my eyes snapped open.
It was Doc!
I jumped up and threw my arms around him. "Doc! Please help me these people are crazy!" I cried into his shoulder, he patted my back and told me to be quiet. His eyes widened when he saw my cut and bruised body and the marks left from the taser. He gave me a sympathetic look but I told him I just wanted to get out of here.
"Follow my lead," He whispered as he pulled out his gun and stood behind the door. He started to rock the trailer, making moaning sounds. I followed his lead and did the same.
We kept rocking and moaning until I heard Tobias and his men getting ready to come in. The door opened and Doc let off three shots for the three men. I peered over Doc's shoulder, hoping that good for nothing piece of shit was dead. Anger rose in me when I saw that none of the men that were shot was Tobias, just his goons.
"C'mon Jaime time to go," Doc said and grabbed my hand. His hands were calloused and cold but it was comforting. I was overjoyed they had come back for me. We were almost at the gate. I saw the others waiting by the truck further down the road, Charles and Tobias were talking at the gate.
Doc pulled be behind a dumpster and we waited,we waited for the signal. Doc had told me when the music started playing, we had to run. We had to run and not look back. "You might wanna take those heels off," Doc whispered. I was holding Doc's arm. I didn't need to but I wanted to, just seeing someone I know and trust made me feel better, it made me have hope that this wasn't the end of Jaime Bell.
3 minutes and 27 seconds later loud classical music started blaring from somewhere and guns were being fired. I saw Tobias jump for cover on the far side of the gate.
We ran for it, a full blown Olympic sprint. I was faster then Doc so I dragged him so he didn't get left behind. We quickly reached the gate that was already open. Z's were starting to stagger over to the compound almost blocking our path.
We were so close, so close to safety, so close to leaving this place in the dust. That was until I felt a piercing pain in my left calf. I screamed out in pain as I fell to the ground. Doc stopped to help me up but I shook him off.
"Doc go I'm right behind you, we don't have long before the Z's block our path!" I grunted as I stood, swaying slightly as I tried to stay on my right foot. I wasn't going to let him die for me. The pain was excruciating but I kept going.
Doc was running ahead of me. The ground was hard under my bare feet and the wind was cold against my exposed skin. Tears stained my face, my leg were burning but I didn't stop, I couldn't stop.
A hand grabbed my short hair and pulled me to the ground causing me to cry out in pain. It was Tobias. Doc turned to run back and help me but the Z's cut him off. Streams of tears soaked my face. Come on Jaime stop crying, don't let him know that he scares you.
"Where you going, my lovely," He growled at me, his fist still full of my hair. I spat on his face. "Away from this place!" I roared at him as I punched him in the face and kneed him right where it hurts. He grunted and groaned in pain as he let me go. I snatched the gun out of his waistband and pointed it at him.
"Oh sweet Jaime, the guy with the big gun always, always wins," He smiled and waved his hand. A guy back at the compound pulled a white sheet off of a 50 calibre gun. I turned to sprit but I was limited to a jog.
I fell to the ground, I couldn't keep going with my leg, it hurt to much and I was losing too much blood. I was starting to get tunnelled vision as I led face down in the dirt. Tobias snatched the gun back and aimed it at my head.
"You would have made the perfect family member," He sighed and I braced myself for death. My eyes closed as I started to loose consciousness. "Please just make it quick," I whispered in defeat. In my last moments before I blacked out, I heard a shot but I felt no pain.
Is this what dying is like? Painless? Easy? Slow? I heard more shots before I finally blacked out.
10k's POV
"You would have made the perfect family member," That scumbag Tobias said as he raised a gun at her. I quickly raised my sniper and aimed. I breathed in as I squeezed the trigger. A bullet planted itself directly between his eyes. "C'mon Jaime, get up." I hoped as I muttered to myself. After 5 seconds, she didnt get up. Why hasn't she gotten up. I felt a heavy pain constrict my chest. I had become good friends with this girl and she was left there in the dirt to die.
"10K kill the Zs!" Doc shouted at me as he runs up to my spot. "Why did you leave her there to die?" I whispered and aimed again, shooting Z's to clear a path for Doc. She didn't deserve to be left to the Z's.
"She isnt dead! She will be if you dont kill them god damn Zs! She was shot in the leg," He exclaimed quickly and aimed his own gun. She wasn't dead! As quick as lightning, I jumped out of the tree and aimed my scope as I ran towards her. I shot zombies until my mag clicked empty. I slipped my sniper over my shoulder and swiftly pulled out my pistol.
I now saw her, I've broken through the wall of zombies but more were coming. Garnett had finally turned that god awful music off. I ran over to her and crouched down, checking her pulse, "Cmon, cmon, cmon" I mumbled as I searched for it. I found her pulse but it was weak. I scooped her up into my arms, bridal style, and started to run back to the truck as quick as I could. She wasn't heavy so it wasn't hard to run. I laid her down in the bed of the truck. "10k we need to go now!" Warren shouted at me and I climbed in. We sped off down the track and back onto the main road.
I looked over a Jaime as Doc was trying to treat her leg. She was wearing hardly any clothes and had bruises and cuts all over her body. I couldn't even begin to imagine what she went through, I'll ask her when she was awake... that is if she wanted to talk about it.
"Is she gonna be okay Doc?" I asked, attempting to not let my worry leak into my voice. He shook his head before answering me. A stone formed in my stomach.
"Hmm I don't know, the bullet seems to have gone straight through and missed anything important, well I mean other then the muscle tissue which is gonna take a few weeks to heal." He sighed as he tightened the belt around the top of her shin to slow the bleeding.
"We need to stop if Im gonna stitch this", He said and instantly I stood up and banged on the roof of the cab. Warren slowed the truck and climbed out, so did Garnett. "Whats wrong, is she okay?" Warren asked as she strolled up to the side of the truck.
"Doc needs to stitch her up so we are stopping," I said with a blank expression, staring her in the eyes. She looked a little shocked at my sudden speech and assertiveness, but she nodded understandingly.
"When I get her stitched up and she will need antibiotics," Doc explained as he pulled out a suture kit. I nodded as I turned to Warren and Garnett. "Next town we get to, we are stopping and I'm finding antibiotics," I said through gritted teeth.
"Alright, next town we stop at we will stay for a few days. We will rest, find supplies and antibiotic." Garnett said as he opened the back door, "Everybody out, if you need the toilet go now.".
I had to step away while Doc stitched her up. I couldn't watch. "Hey kid I'm all done, can you bandage her up while I wash my hands?" Doc shouted over at me as he jumped out of the truck bed.
I nodded tightly and walked over. I picked up the roll of bandages and crouched next to her. She looked pale and I saw goose bumps on her legs and arms. She must be freezing wearing that hooker outfit. I quickly and carefully bandaged her leg, Doc had done an okay job at it, then again what did I know.
I pulled off my jacket and wrapped it around her. Hopefully that would warm her up and stop Murphy's hungry looks at her small body. I pulled her up onto my lap while Doc jumped back in. He hit the side of the truck and we continued on our way to the next town.
Doc gave me a strange look when he saw her laid in my lap with my jacket on.
"She's freezing," Was all I said, he nodded and dug around for a blanket.
