Jaime's POV
Everywhere hurt. Everywhere hurt and I was cold. Wait...I'm not dead! I didn't die back in Philly, Tobias didn't kill me! I tried to open my eyes but my eyelids were heavy. I tried again and I managed to open them just a sliver.
I noticed I was in a room somewhere I didn't recognise. The wallpaper was slowly starting to peel. It was dark in here because the window was covered but I could still see the daylight through the material. I was led in a single, metal frame bed with the covers pulled over me. I could tell I was still wearing the clothes from Tobias's hooker wardrobe as I felt the soft sheets on my bare legs. I wasn't wearing my jacket though, I didn't have a black jacket.
I used my arms to push my self up and looked around properly. I looked over to the corner of the room and saw 10k asleep in the chair. His head was hung and his arms were crossed in front of him. His sniper was resting against the side of the chair and his bag next to that. I saw my backpack next to him. Maybe some of my clothes are in there so I can get out of this outfit. I pulled the covers off of me and instantly shivered at the coldness of the room.
There was a bandage wrapped around my calf where I was shot. A throbbing, burning pain pulsated through my leg, but nothing compared to how much it first hurt. I swung my legs off the side of the bed and my bare feet touched the freezing floor. Blood rushed to my wound and made the pain worse. I gritted my teeth as I tried to stand. I managed to stand on my right foot, but as I tried to take a step onto my left I fell to the ground and whimpered in pain. The floor was cold as I laid there, hurting too much to move.
I heard 10k jump from his chair. "Jaime, what are you doing?" he asked sleepily as his strong arms wrapped around my body picking me up. I felt my cheeks tinge red. He hurriedly laid me back on the bed.
"I'm sorry I was just trying to get my bag," I apologised quietly. His dazzling blue eyes met mine and he smiled softly, dimples formed in his cheeks. "You could've just asked me to get it for you," He spoke gently as he sprang up and grabbed my bag carrying it back over to me.
"I didnt want to wake you, you looked so peaceful," I laughed, blushing as soon as soon as I realised what I said. He chuckled and handed me the bag. I started to dig around in it. "Thank you. Where are the others?" I questioned. He stood up again and strolled over to his bag.
"Doc and Murphy are downstairs, the others are out looking for antibiotics for you." He replied pulling out a plastic bag. "These are your clothes, Doc grabbed them when he was in you trailer," He added. I smiled gratefully and accepted the bag he was holding out to me. He smiled back. "While you get changed, I'll got get you some food and water. Doc will have to look at your leg to make sure it isn't infected,". And with that, he slipped out the door and left me alone to change.
"Hey, you decent in there?" Doc knocked at my door.
"Yeah, come in," I replied as I tied my laces. He walked in with his medical bag and a bottle of water. He sat on the end of the bed, handed me the bottle of pills and a can of lentil soup out of his bag.
"Wasn't sure what you liked, but 10k said you didnt mind lentil," He said sheepishly. I nodded and laughed, lightening the mood. "Lentil is great thank you,". He nodded at me before pointing at my leg.
"Mind if I have a look?" He asked. I nodded my head. I pulled back the sheets. "I had to leave the shorts on, I couldnt get the jeans over my bandage without it hurting like a bitch," I admitted as I opened the can and started to drink it. "Ah thats okay, I'll send 10k out later to find you something else to wear. Wearing shorts around Murphy probably isnt the best idea. He is a little, well you know he's a man who hasn't seen a pretty girl in a while. Although I'm sure 10k will put him right back in his place if he tries anything", Doc laughed as he unwrapped my bandage, he must have stitched it up while I was out cold.
"What do you mean 10k will put him back in his place?" I mumbled, trying not to cry out in pain as he pokes about the stitches. He started to wrap my leg back up.
"Well its obvious the kids thinks your pretty awesome, I always catch him staring at you when were driving," He laughed and winked.
"Maybe he just doesn't trust me," I lied. I knew 10k trusted me, he had told me he trusted me the most in the group.
"Jaime you must be crazy! Your the only one the kid fully trusts, why do you think he only talks to you. He cares for you," He exclaimed loudly as he laughed and walked towards the door. "I'll take the stitches out in a week or so but you won't be up on you feet for 2 weeks, get some rest okay?" He added caringly. I finished my soup and took a few gulps of water before lying back down to get some more sleep. Doc's words replayed over and over again in my head, 'He cares for you'. Does 10k actually care for me?
